50 Songs About Each State To Celebrate The USA

Ah, the wonderful country that is the United States of America – sigh? What better way to celebrate the great USA than through song? Music moves, and these 50 songs – one for each state – should ‘move’ you.  Well, maybe not all of them ‘move’ and maybe not even all are celebratory, but these 50 songs should tickle your fancy and potentially beef up your playlist.  There’s also plenty of diversity here – veteran artists, obscurer lesser known artists and a variety of genres.  So, here goes nothing!!!

But first, how about a little “Fifty Nifty United States”… “From 13 original colonies!” 


1) Alabama: Lynyrd Skynyrd, “Sweet Home Alabama” (Second Helping, 1974)

Yeah, this one was the most obvious, celebratory Alabama song. There’s simply no other choice that should come close to consideration.  Had something else been put in place of the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic, Alabamans everywhere would be enraged!

2) Alaska: Between The Buried And Me, “Alaska” (Alaska, 2005)

Whether you’re American or from elsewhere, you’re likely going to need an interpreter for “Alaska.” The best way to describe metal band Between The Buried And Me’s song is, um, ambitious.  But then again, isn’t metal and its subgenres a whole another language in itself?
