Who is Macklemore?

The man behind the hits such as “Thrift Shop”, “Same Love”, Can’t Hold Us” and numerous others real name is Ben Haggerty. Macklemore is an American Rapper.  He began releasing music independently back in 2000. He now collaborates with best friend/hit producer Ryan Lewis and has gained a significant fan-base online via social media. So far, he has released one mix tape, three EPs and two full albums independently with no help from any major record labels.

His single “Thrift Shop” has been viewed on YouTube over 350 million times, and reached number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2013, selling more than 2.2 million copies!! Making that a first for a song to reach number 1 on the Hot 100 chart without the support of a major record label  since ‘94! Their second single, “Can’t Hold Us” also peaked at #1 of the Hot 100 Chart, making Macklemore & Ryan Lewis the first duo in the chart’s history to have their first two singles both become a #1 single!
