John (Mark Wahlberg) is thrilled when his childhood wish brings his teddy bear to life, but he didn’t anticipate what would happen once they grew up. Now John must choose to stay with his girlfriend (Mila Kunis) or to remain friends with his crude and selfish teddy bear, Ted (Seth MacFarlane)
Director/Writer: “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane in his live action directorial debut
Co-Writers: “Family Guy” writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild
Notable Actors: Joel McHale, Giovanni Ribisi, Patrick Stewart, Patrick Warburton
ORIGINALITY RATING: High. This isn’t the first time a child’s wish has brought a beloved inanimate object to life; however the consequences have never been this hilarious. The concept of a teddy bear growing up like a regular person to become really sleazy and crude is dynamite. MacFarlane dons a Peter Griffin-lite voice for Ted as he does all sorts of funny stuff in this trailer such as hanging out with hookers and taking bong hits. Walhberg also proves that he’s good at playing the straight man character in this collection of clips. I only hope that the trailer doesn’t reveal the only amusing parts of the film, and that there are plenty more laughs to be had. If “Ted” is as comical as “Family Guy” is, I’ll be a happy camper.
WHO SHOULD SEE IT: “Family Guy” lovers who are thrilled to see the same crass sense of humor translated to live action. If you think this film’s premise is hilarious and you’re curious to see how Seth MacFarlane does in his first big directing gig, then you should seek out “Ted.”
