Bitterness. In today’s very politically correct cinematic landscape it’s a trait that seems to be missing from the characters in movies as of late. We’re not just talking about everyday angry guys who are out for revenge or vengeance, but rather folks that no matter what the situation they manage to find the down side and unapologetically live and breathe there. And while there have been a plethora of top lists for the meanest and nastiest characters movies have to offer, we’re here to fill the need for curmudgeons who are just plain bitter. Below is a list of the gents who fit the film bill – five of the most fuming, resentful and cynical cats to ever grace the silver screen. Beyond mad, past irate and certainly comfortable in their own sour skins, here are my…"Top 5 Bitter Male Movie Characters."
("Dirty Harry," "Magnum Force," "The Enforcer," "Sudden Impact," "The Dead Pool")
While Clint Eastwood has built a career playing some of the most cold characters in movie history (see Sergio Leone’s ‘Spaghetti Western’ trilogy!) none comes to mind more in terms of sheer overall anger like San Francisco Inspector Harry Callahan. Faced daily dealing with the scum of the earth ("Go ahead - make my day!"), the threat of death and a police force that keeps putting the criminals rights to the forefront, Harry is a lone wolf who believes the guilty should be punished. His evolution over five films runs the spectrum of resentment, but it’s most evident in “The Enforcer” where at his pissed off peak Harry takes on the usual hoods, a female partner, his superiors and even the mayor in a all out bitter battle to make a point – he’s fed up with the status quo.
