Once upon a time in 965AD lived a king named Odin (Anthony Hopkins) His kingdom was called Asgard and he had two sons...Thor (Chris Helmsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston). At one time Asgard was at war with the Frost Giants of Jotunheim...They are these really ugly, really nasty beings who can freeze you with one touch. Their leader is Laufey (Colm Feore). So an uneasy truce has kept the peace between these two realms for many years...but that soon changes.
Thor is just about to be crowned King when all hell breaks loose. The Frost Giants attack and things go from bad to worse.
Thor, out for revenge travels to Jotunheim to confront Laufey accompanied by his brother Loki, his childhood friend Sif (Jaimie Alexander) and the Warriors Three: Volstagg (Ray Stevenson) Fandral (Joshua Dallas) and Hogun (Tadanobu Asano). A battle ensues and that's the end of the truce.
Because of Thor's arrogance, Odin strips his son of his godly power and exiles him to Earth accompanied by his hammer Mjolnir - the source of his power. Unfortunately Thor can't use the hammer because he isn't worthy any longer.
Luckily, scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and her team which includes Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) and Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings)...come to Thor's rescue. They wind up helping him with his quest to save Earth from those nasty Frost Men.
Along with fighting off a really, really big Frost beast, Thor has to deal with a government agency called SHIELD which is trying everything to get control of the Mjolnir. Good thing Thor's mighty band of warriors fly down to earth to help him out.
'Thor' based on the Marvel comic book is a fantastic ride...fantasy, mythological epic, filled with incredible action scenes and of course...it's also a love story...between God and Human.
The direction, by the wonderful British actor Kenneth Branagh, is excellent and visually the film is breathtaking. 'Thor' is shot in 3D and I highly recommend you see it on an IMAX screen.
Anyone that is a fan of this genre will love this movie. I know I did - Gave it 4 1/2 bagels out of 5. My husband John...well you just have to watch our video to see what he thought.
'Thor' opens in theaters Friday April 6, 2011.
