The new full-length trailer for The Wolverine has just been released, giving us a better idea of Logan's journey to Japan.

Still haunted by the events X-Men: The Last Stand, in which Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) had to kill Jean Grey (that's her, played by Famke Janssen, in the beginning of the trailer) so she wouldn't be corrupted by her latent Phoenix powers, Logan is found by an assassin who explains her employer has an offer: Death.

As the trailer explains, Wolverine saved a man's life during World War 2 by throwing him into a well and covering him as an atomic blast ripped through the country. If Logan can protect the now elderly man's granddaughter until her wedding, he will "turn off" Wolverine's healing factor and "allow" him to finally die. "A man can run out of things to live for," he says.

Unfortunately, with or without Wolverine's knowledge, he has already had treatment to slow down his healing during one of the most dangerous times in his long life. Suddenly gunshots and katana blades have lasting effects on Wolverine as he tries to protect a woman he is falling in love with - and is engaged to another man.

In the trailer, Wolverine tries to cope with his slowed healing and the Silver Samurai, who we see in motion for the first time. I'm not completely sold on the more robotic flavor; I preferred the giant samurai who happened to wear metallic armor from the comics. Still, The Wolverine looks like it will be the summer action hit we've been waiting for.

The Wolverine will hit theaters July 24.
