The official E! Online Twitter account was hacked on Saturday afternoon by a group who posted that Justin Bieber exclusively revealed to the site that he's gay and that on-again/off-again girlfriend Selena Gomez "fully supports" him.
The Syrian Electronic Army, which has previously hacked the BBC, Associated Press nad Britain's The Guardian, took credit for the attack on Saturday an hour after posting things like, "Exclusive: Justin Bieber to E!online: I'm a gay," and "Exclusive: Selena Gomez tells E! she will fully supporting Justin in his coming out."
The group also tweeted a fake headline about Angelina Jolie, who's known for her humanitarian efforts, but the poorly written tweet all but gave away the hack.
"Angelina Jolie admits, in E! latest issue, that Jordan is to blame for the Syrian refugees' atrocious conditions," the tweet read (E! doesn't have a magazine).
The tweets have since been deleted and E! has issued an explanation and an apology.
"This account @eonline was compromised and some incorrect information was sent out. We're working with Twitter now to fix this," the entertainment site posted.
Shortly after the hack, the SEA took credit for the hack.
"The Syrian Electronic Army was here! Fans of @justinbieber, you have been trolled by @Official_SEA12 #SEA," the group posted.
Last month the group targeted the Associated Press's twitter page, writing, "Breaking: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured."
The tweet caused panic and sent the Dow Jones Industrial Average in the Stock Marked plunging
