The first in the series of movies with the "Next Generation" cast, "Star Trek: Generations" really feels like the passing of the torch from one generation to another because it actually features both Captain Kirk and Captain Picard.

Dr. Soren, a fantastic villain played by Malcolm McDowell, was separated from a perfect world, known as the Nexus, and devotes his entire life to getting back there. McDowell's character Soren is so evil, that he's willing to blow up an entire star system to reach his goal.

Picard becomes trapped in the Nexus but he finds James T. Kirk there as well, and the two team up to stop Soren from blowing up the star system. As someone who loves both the original show and the "Next Generation" series, I like that Captain Kirk and Captain Picard combine their efforts to defeat Soren, because it's the best of both worlds.
