'Star Trek' Phaser, Marilyn Monroe Memorabilia Bring In Big Bucks At Auction
A prop gun that Captain Kirk (William Shatner) used in the 1960s series "Star Trek" sold at auction for a record-breaking $231,000 over the weekend.
The phaser rifle was featured in the second episode of the first season of the science fiction series. The sale was one of the highest amounts ever paid for a prop on the show. In 2008, the captain's chair was sold to a private collector for $304,750.
Julien's Auctions sale in Beverly Hills, Calif., also featured a customized 1965 Imperial Crown nicknamed Black Beauty that was driven by Seth Rogen in 2011's "The Green Hornet." It was sold for $46,875. A Christopher Reeve "Superman IV" flying suit sold for $25,000, and an original, signed abstract painting by Frank Sinatra made $21,250.
Several Marilyn Monroe items were also auctioned, including her bra from "Some Like It Hot" ($28,125), a cocktail dress ($25,000), and a nightshirt ($15,000).
