Oprah's Mom Countersues Store For Its $156K Bill

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Oprah Winfrey's mother says she shouldn't have to pay a nearly $156,000 debt to a high-end fashion store because store officials shouldn't have extended credit to her.

One would think that one of the richest women in the world could pay off her mother's credit account rather than have it splashed all over the news. If the poor woman is so incompetent, maybe she should be put in a home where she can be looked after rather than living alone and running up bills that she can't or won't pay. This sort of irresponsible spending/charging by those who cannot pay their bills is the reason that this country is in the financial condition that it is in today.

So, she KNEW that the store wasn't supposed to extend credit, but she used it anyway? I'd say BOTH are liable - Mom owes half.
Still, how does one ring up $156K of debt after ringing up $175K? Why isn't anyone (I mean YOU, Oprah!) keeping an eye on her spending?
Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?....

You buy..you pay for it...that's the American Way or it used to be. Where is the mercandise she bought? Does she think just because she can't pay for it now it's okay? I would love to go out and buy everthing I wanted but I have enough common sense to know what I can afford to pay and what I can't. There are too many 'free ride seekers' in this country now. That's our problem and why we are in such a mess. People Must Take Personal Responsibility for their actions.

Some thing is wrong with this story! I have never hear Oprah Winfrey talk about her family or her mother. Also,I've never scene Her Mother on her TV talk Show or mention her. That's the real Story. I think someone need to find out the truth of this story.The words for the day is TRUTH AND THINK. This is why the U.S.A. are in the situation that they are in. We Believe everything SOMEONE TELL US.

I've seen a number of articles and pictures of Oprah's mother so L T Tucker if your insinuating that the mother doesn't exhist, you're wrong. This is yet another example of someone living beyond their means and then not being able to pay the piper. It has to stop.
