Although I won't toss you in detention, the absence of "The Blackboard Jungle" (1955) from this list earns you an "incomplete". Not only did it set the standard for films about idealistic teachers who struggle to reach a class of delinquents, but its cast featured several actors who went on to bigger fame both in front of and behind the camera (Sidney Poitier, Vic Morrow, Paul Mazursky, and Jamie Farr). Plus, it was the first Hollywood film to use a rock and roll song on its soundtrack... "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and His Comets.

Some of my other favorites are: Lean On Me, Cooley High, Stand and Deliver, and Summer School.

Pretty good list. I'd drop "Dead Poets Society" for "Election."
