Every year Hollywood get the insane idea to release bad movies, it happens it's the nature of the business.
The problem is that movies are nothing more $100 million dollar explosions, in order to recroup the money invested in said flops they due the next best thing release to DVD or Cable TV.
Historical Hollywood factoid in 1939 The Wizard of Oz was released to mediocre box office returns, it also opened against Gone With The Wind and Wurthering Heights, the studio released the movie on television and it has found a new generation of audiences and repaid for itself over and over again.
