I disagree with Pearl Jam. Saw them in '95. Major letdown.
U2 should be #1 on this list.
And if we're talking experiences here, then The Grateful Dead most certainly should be on this top 5.

A Zeppelin tour never really was a serious possibility for fall. Especially since Robert is touring into October. Robert recently commented thusly:
"You know, I work and work and work and work and work, and I have good intentions. And sometimes, it's very simple, the way the media will manipulate an idea or a story. In the end, a lot of artists are moved into spaces they do not need to go by the force of others' opinions. Every dog has his day. I had a wonderful time with the guys in December. But right now, this is what I'm doing, and it's spectacular and a joy. In my time and my career, joy is the greatest commodity that I have."

@Guy Nacolojist: I think their show today is much improved over what they did in the 1990's
-
@RobertPlantFan: I mentioned it is only speculation... but it *could* happen eventually. At least I hope it does.

I would have included the legendary Rolling Stones any day over Pearl Jam.

This should be more aptly titled "Five Must-see Dinosaurs' Concerts Before You Die". All good bands, all worth seeing, mostly way past their prime. The Flaming Lips are a concert experience unlike any other. If they ever play near you, you owe it to yourself to go.

Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen, always no.1!
Just leaving tomorrow for more 4 great nights: San Sebastian, Madrid and twice Barcelona.
Just 2 weeks ago returned from Milan and PAris...
25 years burning down the road....
Lost the count on how many concerts!
All the best,
José Alves -Portugal ( Europe - in case you don´t know where it is...)
PS: Bruce is always in my heart... he is the best!

you haven't lived until you've seen dennis quaid and the sharks play in the parking lot of the casino queen in east st louis, il!
the "jamily" thing was a made up word by an entertainment weekley writer. vedder is on record as having never heard of the term and hard core pj fans scoff at it.

@hooba: I love Pink Floyd, but I have to agree with Marcus Garvey. It would be like McCartney calling himself "The Beatles" without John Lennon.

@Rob: I like it, it makes me laugh.

@MikeR: I, personally, think Pearl Jam is one of those "bait & switch" bands.
They started out grunge, and nothing they put out can ever top their first album. That set the mark for me. I listened to Ten over and over and over until I wore it out and had to buy it again.
Then VS. came out and it I listened over and over, and it was good, but it still didn't have that same feel as Ten and seemed a bit lacking, despite being a deep album. Vitalogy followed and there were only a couple of songs I cared for, then No Code, etc., etc. The newest is pretty good-- the avocado album. It was originally hailed as more like Ten, but it wasn't.
Cool thing is that I saw them with The Ramones opening. That was pretty sweet.

@Guy Nacolojist: I know people who swear up and down for them. I think what you wrote is kind of my point though, I think they have transformed themselves to a full on touring band, as opposed to their past as a band that made great studio albums.

No, their music style changing was my point. They got too mellow. They went from a$$ kickers to whiners.
In Sirius radio channel terms, they went from Octane to Coffeehouse Rock.

and @ hooba:
Seriously dude, get a clue. Your post has "I'm 15" written all over it.
"hooba?" What are you a Hoobastank fan? They blow about as much as your post.
#1. It's David GilmOUR.
#2. You obviously have PF confused with your favorite tv show, GilmORE Girls
#3. From someone who has seen both the DG version of Floyd live and Roger Waters solo shows-- Waters' shows are waaaaaay more PF than Gilmour's.

@Guy Nacolojist: I see your point. Though, I think "I Am Mine"is one of PJ's best songs ever - It's not mellow - and it is on a later album.

one pj record that i think is highly underrated is yield. i've always liked it.
as far as their live act, it is top notch. you're going to hear even flow, you're going to hear alive, you're going to hear better man. you'll hear the singles from all the subsequent albums. i've seen pj twice and i've heard every single they've ever had and they have a way of doing it so they do not appear to be a juke box. contrast that with a band like rem, who i like but has no business being on this list. i've seen rem 4 times and haven't heard orange crush yet. that's criminal.
by the way, bruce could learn a thing or two from pj. he is an amazing concert experience, no doubt. but i've seen him twice now and not heard glory days yet. i'm seeing him twice in the next five weeks. i better hear some glory days!

I grew up in New Jersey and have never understood the Springsteen mystique... the guy is harder to understand than Bob Dylan or E. Vetter. I have seen him live and thought much of the "energy" between he and Clarence Clemmons (sp?) was very contrived. Maybe I just dislike a guy who cheats on his wife and ends up marrying a no-talent Yoko. Great shows from U2 and McCartney although the latter can be good one night and only so so the next. I saw the Zepplin set at Live Aid back in '84 and have been counting the days for a reunion of some sort, even if it meant Phil Collins on drums. In the grunge days I was more of a Nirvana fan but really did enjoy Pearl Jam's "10" especially Alive and Jeremy. because of Vetter's inability to enunciate I think they're better suited to smaller halls in the 2,000 seat range.

My brother-in-law flew down to Jampa Bay to partake in the concert with the rest of the "Jamily". He said the concert was incredible.
Also, I have a couple of their live albums they put out recently, and it is good stuff.
