Steely DanSometimes it seems like a band just doesn't know when to quit. Just imagine how many times you've heard some classic rock DJ try to pawn off front row tickets to Steely Dan, or how many advertisements

Worst Starpulse article ever.
Apparrently Mr. King has never even seen any of these bands live.
I got news for ya buddy...
Steely Dan is the shiat in concert. So are the Eagles, Billy Joel, Aerosmith, Metallica and U2.
And Big Brother? Really? I didn't know they were still going strong, you know, since they pretty much fell off the earth in 1968. You know after that chick, hmm, what's her name? Oh yeah, JANIS JOPLIN, split from them and then OD'd.
And Boston? Hmmm, didn't you hear the news about a year ago?
All of the bands you've listed still sell out the venues they play in where I live, so I don't know why you think they should hang it up.
I think you shouldn't be writing anymore.

Metallica blows. They should have stopped a long time ago.

I waited 20 years for Steely Dan to get over their egos jonnie and decided I would never go. Now, if the old farts that call themselves Led Zepplin want to tour.... that's a different story.

Saw Steely Dan recently, and even though I'm not a big fan they were good. Also saw Lynyrd Skynyrd a few years back. They are one of the most annoying band names to spell. What would all the southerners do if they stopped touring?

as long there's some1 who still buys their album then they still rock.Personally,i do have my favorites too & id love to see them perform again.Say Elvis resurrects from the dead & performs harder than ever, would you want him to put down the guitar?ther's many old bands that sell & rock better thn these new bunch!do you also want them to put down their guitars?if yes, then all the old actors should put down the script & give way for the new & fresh actors!FOOD FOR THOUGHT,USE IT?DONT USE IT?

Ha Ha Hey, hey, we're the Monkees,
And people say we monkey around,
But we're too busy singing
To put anybody down. Rock on dudes. Well not The Monkees, that would be just gross.

Has the writer even been to a Billy Joel concert lately? Sure, Joel is no spring chicken, but he's putting on a hell of a show that's filling seats night after night--all without any new material to promote. There's something to be said for this kind of ability to draw fans. What does that have to do with age? I'd sooner go see any of these "geriatric" acts--true music legends and icons--than any schlockey, overproduced, lip-synching, Hannah Montana, "new" act.

I agree with most of what you wrote, how ever the Rolling Stones still sell out big venues I never liked them. I do like Bob Dylan he is in his late sixties and still sells out concerts, two years ago he had anumber one cd. Bob's music is timeless.

I guess nobody told Kris King that Journey has a Billboard top 5 album currently and is selling out venues all over the world. I guess she also didn't realize that Journey was around long before Steve Perry.
Idiot!

At least these group made some of the great music ever compared to hiphop rap miley and britney..
I feel bad for you and the kids today..they have been screwed and shortchanged! lol

BTW how young are you?? you must have missed out on the great music of the 60s 70s and 80s! and if you OLD, then you must have missed out on everything lol

sorry :(

I'd rather hear these old band's music today than the NOISE they have today being peddled out as music! yap NOISE!

Even though, James Hetfield, is older now, and Lars, well let's just say his drums are more mixed then real these days, I too, would still rather listen to this old stuff, from these old farts, than some of the new stuff they have out today.
Whatever happened to rock bands?? Did the big hair band's of the eighties just die off?
How come Rap is soo popular, it isn't even music, just talking....
No offense, I like Black Eyed Peas, War, and a few other meaningful artists, but what is up with these flashes in the pan.
Guess, it is the year, of the "one hit wonders"

I agree, these bands had a good run, but who really wants to see a bunch of old farts trying to jump around on stage and act at least half their age? If they want to still play maybe some television specials would be more on the level for them. But concerts???? Let's get real. Half of them have to have an I.V. during the break in the middle of the show. That is not a good sign. Everyone gets old, do it with some grace......Neil Diamaond on American Idol, he was still good, but that was even a stretch. Some of the folks get better with age just like fine wine but the majority of them just loose it and and can not come to terms with it. Get real, start a charity, travel to a place you have not been before, enjoy the money you have made, (If you still have any), that is the reason I think that these aging bands try to still perform, they need the cash. That is such a waste, if they would have invested and had someone else handle their money for them then they would still have some. I know if I had made a lot of money early in my life that I would be set for life. You don't spend thousands of dollars on things that are fleeting........ Come on folks get a life!

Honestly if these bands want to play and folks want to pay whats the problem. I would like to think these bands are in the industry for the music, although maybe it was for the sex and drugs , and if the drugs haven't killed them and they can still enjoy sex .I say let them rock.

Kris King,
You are so clueless,JRNY gave more than 2 years for the portuguese Perry to have his hip operation, while the Band lays idle (NO income) waiting for his ego-highness to do it! He didn't, so just like in a company where you gave an employee 3 months leave of absence and after the LOA expired, that errant, irresponsible employee didn't report for work and REFUSED to work...what will the employer do? Fire him, and get another more competent and hardworking one!
What's the bottomline? It is all about MUSIC, people! The Band's MUSIC is greater than the sum of it's members! IF there is any member that defines a band, it should be the founding member and in the case of Journey it is Neal Schon! Any intrigues, politics, soap opera antics and melodrama within the Band is superfluous and irrelevant to the BOTTOMLINE! Now, with regards to the front singer position, it's similar to the James Bond 007 character...there has been a lot of actors who played James Bond, i.e. from a Scottish Sean Connery, to an English Roger Moore, an Irish Pierce Brosnan and even a BLOND actor--Daniel Craig...all of these different actors have some things in common--they are all handsome, athletic looking, sleek and virile, yet each and everyone of them made their own interpretation and take on what they think Bond is! So same with JRNY's front man--Perry, Augeri, Soto, Pineda..they all have tenor voices and since they are different each of them are able to make the JRNY's songs unique!

Journey existed before Steve Perry joined the band. Journey is Neal Schon's project. Always was, always will be.

I agree about Journey-they find a really talented singer, cover Steve's songs, write a few anemic new ones that no one comes to a concert to hear, then schedule a concert every other day until they will burn out Arnel's voice. Bottom line-Revelation went platinum out of curiosity and because a whole new generation never realized that the same songs are available at half the price by the guy who co-wrote them and made them famous in the greatest hits collections. Me-I'm waiting for real new music from Perry who cares more about putting out something of quality every 10 years or so than touring the low rent arena circuit just to make a few extra bucks. In other words, a real craftsman.
