I'd have to go with Marvel as I did with comics as a kid just better characters and plot. I always enjoyed the light hearted batman from the 60's though.

I'm sad to say it, but I completely agree with you Mike. I've always felt that Marvel comics were easier to blend into the movie world. DC has a different setting and plot -- it involves a great deal of consistent blending between the comics. Each of the Marvel comics can stand on their own, and they provide much more regular ensemble casts like X-Men and Fantastic Four. DC is stronger in the single characters like Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, the Flash ... it's strange but Marvel just is more user friendly. Easier to understand and connect to from an average viewer.
I'd say that The Dark Knight will be great, but how can it possibly compete when it is one solid movie against heavy hitters? Iron Man was great, the Hulk should be alright, and now they have announced a second Iron Man, Avengers, Captain America ... Batman can't stand alone. DC has got to step it up!

All I know is that "Iron Man" was excellent. Not as pumped about "Incredible Hulk." But "The Dark Knight" looks awesome.

And all I know is that 'Superman Returns' and 'Batman and Robin' are 2 of the worst movies I've ever seen. Love '89 Batman.

"more villains, more action, more box-office".
shouldn't this read: "more villains, more a-list actors, more box-office"?

Dee: I believe this is because Marvel continuity takes place in real cities. That's what made a lot of Spider-Man so good, when they used set pieces in New York to create familiarity and do spins on New Yorkers in general.

Also, I hear Captain America was cut of of The Incredible Hulk.

@Dee Doyle: Why are you "sad" to agree with me?
-
@Tom Sizemore: I agree "Superman Returns" was a bit disapointing. "Batman and Robin" is on a whole different level.
-
@Rob with the broken foot: yes it should
-
@Squints: Good point. As opposed to the likes of Metropolis, Gotham City, Central City (Flash)and Coast City (Green Lantern).

Yes, I agree. DC has a wider fantasy world which is harder to relate to. I mean Gotham can connect to some cities, but it really is a place like nothing else.
@Mike R - Oh! I'm sad to agree because I love DC and dislike Marvel. Sorry, that should've been made more clear. ;) But even if I dislike Marvel I understand that they have done a strong job of moving into the mainstream world and connecting to new audiences. I applaud them on that!

I'd have to say Marvel because a majority of Marvel movies were hits. DC has only really had one good film and that was Batman.

great writing, mike... i'm going with you on this one.
i still think one of the best lines ever, was michael saying, "i'm batman." the delivery from him was spot on.. and who knew? christian bale has stepped up to be a great replacement in the role, giving us a deeply troubled man, all the nuances are in place, still...that one line defined batman..
iron man has been a fun ride this summer. i am twitchy about 'the hulk'... and superman left me meh.
now, where is aquaman?

at the root of it, dc just has less characters that are mostly lame. the marvel universe is freakin' HUGE. but these days, they are both trying pretty hard to do it right. i am still shocked that they gave up on a great set-up for a punisher sequel with thomas jane and it is being redone (ala hulk, but hulk needed it) by totally different people. i just dont get it. great stuff mike

@lovetheweasel: I think there are some DC characters that could be used (Flash, Green Lantern, Green Arrow) but for some reason they stick to Batman and Superman on the big screen. And yes, Hulk did need it.

I just can't stand Spiderman. He's such an annoying character. Always b*tching and moaning.
The rest of this post is most excellent! I want to see more just like it!

I THINK FROM A CLASIC POINT OF VIEW AND FOR REINVENTING THEM SELVES, DC IS BETTER.

@Mike R - Well, exactly. Flash, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, hell even an ACTUAL Catwoman movie could've gone through. I'm surprised they haven't tried a teen titans movie considering! I don't know what the hold up is.
@RASharpe - I completely agree. They just can't find a way to translate it to the big screen apparently.

Well for me, I luv the early Batman with Micheal Keaton. It was Batman with a little humor and I like the fact that they used Mike because he could pull it off, I mean if you saw him on the streets, who would think that he was a superhero. Anyway, after that Batman went to hell until now, but my vote is for Marvel: The web guy, the green guy, the ghost guy, and the metal guy ... they got the movies on lock.... I'm still not to happy about the X-Men but I never really liked the comic either soooo... But anything beats Val Kilmer and George Clooney as Batmen ... what the hell were they thinkin???

Catwoman, Nuff said. I have enjoyed some DC movies but as a kid and adult I have usually enjoye dmarvel for comics and now movies. I did not eben bother going to see the "new" superman movie, they should have let that frnchise end. Not only did they make a horrible movie but they took out the whole " truth , justice, and american way " quote, very sad.
