It is very tragic that such a young person felt that was her only means of solving problems. What would be even more tragic is for the band to be held, in any way, responsible. I have heard Gerard Way, the lead singer of My Chemical Romance, say that he and the band hope to reach out to young kids, like this girl, and keep them from doing this sort of thing! I saw them in concert in Dallas, TX in August of 2007 and he made it a point to stop during the show between songs to reach out to kids like this girl. He said, and I'll get as close to quote as I can, if you are feeling like you want to hurt yourself please talk to someone, anyone you can trust. A teacher, parent, counselor, a peer, anyone. Just please don't hurt yourself, its not cool and we want to help you! Now that's not an exact quote but is very close. I heard this myself at one of their concerts, and on several bootlegged videos of their performances. This is in no way a fault of the band's! They do not promote or support the "emo" scene! Gerard has stated on several occasions that he thinks "emo is a pile of sh*t!". They do not encourage anyone to hurt themselves or commit suicide. If anyone knows anything about them it should be that! Go get the "Life on the Murder Scene" dvd it has a lot of interview moments with Gerard (and the rest of the band) and he comments on emo and how they hate that scene. I let my 4 and 6 year olds listen to MCR, I'm not worried about their future, I think they are good role models!

first off, i dont know what "emo" is but i can say that i doubt it contributed to her death. Blaming music has been around for a long time. Charles Manson blamed Helter Skelter by the Beatles , Tipper Gore blamed Twisted Sister for their song Were not gonna take it,... etc. Parents need to start monitoring their children and take the responsibility for their own neglect when something goes wrong. Chances are that this 13 yr old girl had warning signs of something wrong long before that song..she just needed an opening and found it. Parents watch your kids.

This is horrible. I'm gothic, and I know what it's like to be misunderstood. I wear lots of black and I listen to music that no one else listens to and people sometimes are too ignorent to listen. *Just so all of the ignorent people know - goths arn't like this.*
Don't blame this on the music. My Chemical Romance is a great band and I know they wouldn't have wanted this to happen. She shouldn't have killed herself... she shouldn't have been emo.

Personally, I'm against emo. I think it's ridiculous. And I'm also against suicide. I would never do that.

Of the 9 times I've seen MCR live [and I'm not an emo] they have NOT ONCE encouraged depression, self-harm, suicide, or anything along those lines.
She clearly had some issues which her parents must have been too distant to her to have noticed. Teenagers are unstable and need guidance. Bands like MCR try to HELP people through their problems.
However tragic, the girl did not kill herself because a band told her to.
This is NOT the fault of any band in the music industry.

I don't really like this band, and even though I could see how it appeals to the emo crowd, it isn't an emo band. In "The Black Parade" the lyrics are meant to help motivate people to NOT become members of 'the black parade', urging them to instead fight their demons and to help people who need it. What I hate most is when people associate MCR with "emo". Can't you people get it?
