Downey biy his own admission was already preparing himself for addiction. Some people cant do drugs recreationally. He is one of them apparently.

AAAwwwwww! What a bunch of crap. My mommy didn't love me either. Jeez man up dude. You are a doper always will be a doper. Thats all.
A man has got to know what he is and accept it before he can do anything about it. That's the hard part. Accepting who you are. Sometimes it's not so pretty huh? Way easier to blame something else. Got to take the ugly too.

I can understand his claim... a bit. Yes he admitted a casual use before, but the role in Less Than Zero was the catalyst. There's always a catalyst and there is always a reason. He has his reasons and he will continue to live through the consequences. He does not want sympathy. If his sobriety is genuine, he has changed his life, and he has come to terms with the causes and effects, then good for him! Stop criticizing!

He was young, and I can see how that might have happened. I'm SO happy that he's straight now, and that he didn't let himself become the Hollywood cliche. The world can continue to enjoy his massive talent because he had the balls to QUIT drugs. Bravo.

Human Beings often have a bent towards "something"; and this inclination often rear its head at given opportunities.
Robert Downey Jr.knowing his susceptibility to drugs should have been more careful in his choice of movie. He should take responsibility for his actions.

I remember that movie and it was pretty intense but if he learned anything from the movie then it should have persuaded him to stay away from drugs. Robert Downey Jr. just has raw acting talent that's what makes him so good. I hope he stays clean and learns from his past mistakes.

He's a great actor. The blame doesn't rest with a movie or any other external influence. It never does.

He has an addictive personality. I saw an interview once where he said he felt he wouldn't have been able to accomplish some of the roles he did if he hadn't been through all that. It helped form who he is. It's amazing how many people kept giving him chances and trying to help him. Many times you eventually run out of helpers. He is an amazing actor and I am glad he is doing so well.

You seriously can't blame it on the movie. If you were already taking drugs before then, that's YOUR fault. IDC how "recreationally" you were taking them, you already had them. Besides, if you had any WILLPOWER whatsoever, and IF you were able to only take drugs "after work and on the weekends" for that long, then you should've been able to avoid the situation.
However, even it that WASN'T the case, you have no one to blame but YOURSELF. Don't go crying to others and blaming them. You're the only one that controls your life.

I really like Robert...he truly is a talented actor. Drugs ruin lives no matter how one becomes addicted. Right now, I can just picture everyone who has commented here just sitting around, at one time or another, watching a movie and feeding our faces. Look around...if habits were so easy to recover from there wouldn't be so many thin people critizing the overweight. What is your vice?? Keep up the good work Robert.

Here in Ballygonowhere we are all addicted to Guiness and crack cocaine. We blame Michael the priest, he's the one who brings the crack in. When he came to the village we said the place was a bit short on craic, he obviously missunderstood us but by that time it was to late. If we do not have news of the exchange of Mariah for Daniel O'Donnel and other stuff tonight we will all be lighting up in church. It will be a devastating blow. Still raining.

I watched the movie yesterday and he is clearly wasted. Didn't he just give the diredtor what he wanted? Lets be serious ... back then, little concern was shown to the performer's well being. Look what happened to Kurt Cobain.Things are differnt today, everyone is afraid they may get sued if they have an od on the set.Good luck Robert! You are doing fine!
