Actually, when people tell Jon Stewart that they follow his show for the news, he finds it rather scary and tells them they shouldn't do it.
I will have to respectfully disagree with the whole "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn" is good statement. If you watch that show and his stints on SNL, you know he mugs quite often when his jokes bomb (although to his credit, it's because he expects his audience to be more cerebral and he shoots a joke a few miles over their head). The reason "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn" sucked was because it was Quinn and his pal comedians yelling at each other and searching for a few one-liners to pop off when another made a gaffe.

Why would you evaluate Charlie Rose by the same standards as a comedy show? That doesn't make any sense at all. That's like watching Hamlet and saying, "Where's all the nudity and explosions?" If this was an aesthetics class, you would fail. His goal is to conduct a thoughtful interview. It doesn't matter what time they air it. If you find thoughtful interviews boring, that doesn't make the show bad or him overrated, it means you are uninterested in the subject and should just turn it off. Why not just put the news on here? That's on at the same time as Late Night shows and it's not funny at all. keep it off the late night air waves!

Keith Olbermann and Charlie Rose are the best by my standards. Keith is honest and believable and Charlie conducts a very informative and thoughtful interview.
Both of them are intelligent and know what the audience wants and needs to be well-informed.
Keith's analysis after those dreadful debates between Obama and Hilary are wonderful.

Jon Stewart is the funniest American talk show host since Martin Mull on Fernwood Tonight. The Emmy-winning Daily Show is so much his creation (thank God no more Craig Kilbourne), that its success both culturally and politically is an unassailable testament to the man's genius.
The once-promising Bill Mahar, on the other hand, is an angry little creep and pseudo-intellectual bully whose principal talent is limited to banging bunnies at the Playboy mansion (now THERE'S a brain trust).

Chelsea Handler and Stephen Colbert, in my opinion, are the best talk show hosts.

You're out of your mind if you think Craig Ferguson is funny. Just because Conan may have lost a step lately does not mean Ferguson is funny. In a slot where there has traditionally been experimentation in Late Night, (Letterman on NBC, Conan, etc.) Ferguson has brought nothing original to the table whatsoever. His jokes are hack with no substance and his comedy sketches are even worse. I dare you to watch his show every night for a week- if you make it past wednesday, I'll eat my shoe.

OMG, YES. Craig Ferguson is the BOMB! I don't see why more people don't like him...
I don't get much more of this list, though. Chelsea Handler is ANNOYING. XP And I don't find Jimmy Kimmel to be that boring, although he's clearly not the best guy to be doing this...

Craig Ferguson is definitely the most underrated late night talk show host. His quirky antics and magnetic charm suck me right in. I never change the channel during the commercial breaks of his show for fear of missing even a second of his comedic genius. Not only is he hilarious, but he is devilishly handsome. His Scottish accent is not a turn off, but rather one of the factors that draws me in every night. His Scottish accent is sexy! And Craig has what none of the other talk show hosts seems to have: humanity. He is not afraid to talk about deeply personal experiences, such as his recovery from alcoholism. He shares his joys and struggles alike. He knows how to really connect on a personal level with his audience. Also, his comedic timing is impeccable! Craig can say the most mundane thing, and it comes out hilarious. He can get me to laugh more when he raises an eyebrow than any of the other hosts can get me to laugh at a cleverly set up gag. His late time slot against more famous but less funny competition does not do him justice. He is most certainly the very best talk show host, but no one knows.

After I read the section about the most underrated talk shows, I wanted to write to give my support for Craig. I've watched him since he's begun and still think he is the most original entertainers on TV. He's a mixture of vaudeville, Benny Hill, and Prairie Home Companion. He's the only host who does NOT spend his monologue spewing one-liners about KA needing to go back to her diet. (In a society in which girls, boys and adults suffer from anorexia, I cannot understand why anyone would be so cruel/ignorant to make weight jokes. C.O.) Craig is not for everyone. You have to think to "get" his show. I do watch Jimmy for his monologue and daily news coverage. I also watch Leno's and O'Brian's monologue nightly since I don't have to get up early. Craig's is always the best. Enjoy! He's a man of character.

Craig doesn't get half the attention he deserves...he is wonderful!
I think he is tied with Conan in my book.
I am so excited to hear that the singer Sam Harris is going to have a new talk show. He is so talented!
