Johnny Depp: 'I Landed Cruise's Part In 'Scissorhands''

Johnny Depp nearly missed out on landing the lead role in cult movie Edward Scissorhands - because studio bosses originally wanted Tom Cruise as the star. Depp shot to fame when he landed the title role in Tim Burton's 1991 fantasy epic, but insists producers were determined to cast A-list actor Cruise in the role.

I think that Tim Burton made the right decision choosing to go with Johnny Depp because Tom Cruise would have sucked balls in that movie. He hasn't done anything really good since Interview with a Vampire. Johnny Depp even rocked in Sweeney Todd. I LOVE JOHNNY

From what I heard Tom Cruise did not want the part because of the costume. He argued with the producers that he would do it only if at the end of the movie he would be shown as he really looks without makeup and costume. Thank God Johnny is not vain and chooses parts that mean something or feel right to him, not ones that make him look "pretty"
Just one more reason to love and respect Johnny Depp.
