Baptist Newspaper Editor Says Oprah Promotes 'Anti-Biblical Doctrine'

The editor of a Baptist newspaper has accused talk show queen Oprah Winfrey of leading American Christians astray. James A. Smith Sr., the executive editor of the Florida Baptist Witness, claims Winfrey uses her radio network to promote "anti-biblical" doctrine.

She is and has been selling a New Age philosophy for years. "The Secret" is pure occultism.
These "self help" types (Marianne Williamson. etc) are proponents of the New Age.
She is selling a New Age Christ (Lucifer), not the God of the Bible.

It's quite possible that Oprah, like many other Americans, is not a Christian. I hope nobody fainted after that revelation. She has the right to share whatever beliefs she wants to on her show. I think the author was correct in stating that Christions should avoid whatever it is they find offensive and leave it at that. I have no idea why the Christian Right wants everyone to be cookie cutter images of themselves and will stop at NOTHING, from legislating morality to spinning news to censoring entertainment, until we're all a part of their Christian Theocracy.

Unfortunately, Mr. Smith and other fundamentalists have no idea of who Jesus really was and what he was really about. God , Jesus see what's in the heart. Oprah has a good heart and has done a lot of good in the world. She may or may not be mistaken in some of her spiritual beliefs, but like Jesus said, "God is love", and "Ye shall know them by their fruits". If you have love you have God. People who have little or no real love and compassion for their fellow man in their hearts can't stand to face that truth. I would rather be in her shoes as I stood before the Creator to be judged than most of the closed hearted, closed minded, judgmental fundamentalists I've seen, whether they're Christians (self-proclaimed), Muslims, Hindus, or whatever.
The Jesus quote from steelyfagen (above) has been unfortunately misinterpreted over the centuries and used like a weapon to judge and condemn others who think and believe differently, and give false security to 'believers' who use that quote, who may find themselves one day standing before Jesus saying "Lord, Lord", and Him saying "I don't know you". For your own sake, don't be so sure you're right and everybody else is wrong.
Talking about little children, Jesus said "The kingdom of heaven is made up of such as these", and, "You must become as a little child to enter into the kingdom of heaven" If I were a judgmental fundamentalist, I might be afraid deep down that I don't really have it right and I might be in danger of judgment.

It's by grace through faith, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shall be saved.
That's it. All of the works in the world will not get you to heaven without belief in Jesus alone for salvation.

The Old Testament saints had to work to keep their salvation and we do not. Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ and being sealed in the Spirit was unheard of by them. We are even believing in different things and have a different inheritance.
There was the righteous and the wicked. God knows the heart of man and it is him that saves. Basically the righteous were the ones that attempted to keep the law and didn't go a whoring after other gods. The wicked did just the opposite; their heart was far from God. Still, God in his everlovingkindness and mercy didn't, doesn't, and will never want any man to perish. He has and does everything to see to it that wicked man has every opportunity according to his own just nature for man to get saved.
When we look at the three verses from Deuteronomy we see the word “Saints” being used. This is the first usage of the word “Saints” in the entire Bible. The word “Saints” in Hebrew carries with it the meaning of “holy.”

From what I can surmise by your answer, would you consider this a valid scenario:
A Hindu man, living in the year 3000 BCE, keeping a compassionate heart and law for his community would have his soul welcome into "paradise" and eventually "heaven", regardless of the nature of his religious convictions.

You know, good question and i don't have the definitive answer.
My best guess again would be that God in his mercy didn't, doesn't, and will never want any man to perish. He has and does everything to see to it that wicked man has every opportunity according to his own just nature for man to get saved.
Here's the deal:
I'm a sinner.
I'm saved by grace.
Christ died on the cross for my sins.
My faith in God that raised him from the dead is what gives me salvation and eternal life.
That's the simple gospel truth.

I am a christian also but I believe that all people do not read the bible nor go to church. I believe that God can use anybody and in any way to lead people where they can find help. If Oprah is selling books or have people on her show that will allow people to find the good in their inner self or learn how to get help financially, home, self, or whatever it may be. Then so be it. Let the talk shows and books continue. God uses many ways to help people, and can use anyone to help others. Like Positive Thinking, they may not speak of God when addressing positive thinking but in all reality thats where the words of life comes from. Positive thinking is another way of believing you can do all things and inner searching of oneself is to look inside ones heart. God deals with the Heart and the mind. These books may not use the exact Biblical words but it always lead you to search out the spiritual part of your life. We as people Must Not Become So Closed Minded and Be Quick to Prejudge. Go Ahead Oprah with your Bad self! You have the heart to help others thats a lot more than probably what a lot of pastors are doing. Oprah and her guess is reaching out to people in their own way. Thank God somebody is doing something.

I feel that we as Christians, should've been prepared for whats coming, this was spoken of thousands of years ago by the greatest of men.
There would be a time when false teachings would surface, and they have. I enjoy The big O, at times, however I don't believe in her views, and thats my right as a child of The Almighty and One True Lord. So we need to be prayed up, and suited up for this battle, because it's only going to get a whole lot worse. Stephanie
