Rob Zombie's HalloweenOver the years many classic movies have been remade. Don't get me wrong, some of those remakes have been really good. But the majority of the movies have been really bad.

I don't really know if I'd call any of the musicals-turned-into-movies remakes. They're adaptations, if anything. So Sweeney Todd and Hairspray may not fit in that category.
I like some remakes, and dislike others, although sometimes it makes me wonder if we're losing all ability for original thought by constantly rehashing what has already happened.

Hairspray was originally done by John Waters in 1988...

I was just about to post that OrlandoLuver in response to ChipperHalf's comment.

My question to the article's author though is how is Sweeney Todd a remake? When was the original done? Am I missing something?

I don't usually comment on my own stuff, but I'll clear this one up.
Sweeny Todd was originally released as a 1936 British horror film. This movie was, I believe, the inspiration for the musical- which was in turn the inspiration for the new movie.
Whether you consider these movies to be adaptations or remakes, they all amounts to the same thing- somebody has a new, original way to present an old plot or idea.
All of the movies listed here were on IMDB under the classification, "remake."

Ha Ha Hollywood should be torn down and covered over with nice moist soil to grow weed. Then we might enjoy some of their rehashed hashed over old burned out story lines brought back as johnny Depp crap. You better go to sleep now son or the Humphrey Bogeyman might get you.

It's true that The Departed was a remake of Infernal Affairs, but Infernal Affairs was actually a Hong Kong movie (the announcer for the Oscars also made the same mistake of calling Infernal Affairs a Japanese movie).

I actually liked the original version better than the remake. Even though not many people heard of it in the US, it was one of the highest grossing movie in east Asia. East Asia's a pretty big place. :)

the class in hollywood is way below standards set in the past. not only do the special effects take from the acting. knowing the nasty things the actor did the other night pulls all the fun of compairing the 2 movies. If we get some classy actors in these movies we will like them more. morals need to comeback to hollywood(at least fake morals) so we can respect a remake more from the door. sometime a remake can be great if done right(stick to the original story). Most people hate new twists on a movie they seen a 100 times.
