ParamorePop tunesmiths are a baker's dozen. After the late-90s surge of uber song doctors such as Desmond Child and Diane Warren (known for that Titanic song), Justin Timberlake found his "SexyBack" and his own writing voice following years of whistling Max Martin dixie.

Great article, but what about other female singer/songwriters like Nellie McKay and Jolie Holland?

Well written. Good job, Joey. I'm sure this could be a continuing series!

I like Regina Spektor as well! My good friend saw her at Austin City Limits Music Festival last month and has raved about it ever since.

Also, I agree - this could be a good "series" of articles.

Personally, I don't think that just because someone doesn't write their own songs that we shouldn't listen to them. Should we not listen to Frank Sinatra or Meatloaf? Is Thriller no longer a good song because it wasn't penned by Jackson? And there's plenty of awful artists who write their own songs as well.
Also, I was under the impression that bedroom pop was music made in one's own bedroom, like The Russian Futurists, which is literally one guy from Canada recording great pop songs in his own bedroom.
Lastly, there's still plenty of chart toppers who write their own songs, such as Bruce Springstein, System of a Down, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

That's a scary thought: a computer that can write a song. When computers start expressing emotions, look out!

Anna Nalick and Natasha Bedingfield are great song writers. Delta Goodrem is also an amazing song writer, but she's only released in Australia so not many people here know who she is.

I was working at the craft for a good many years, here are some of my songs: santa.net/john-salerno-songs And I have been fortunate enough to run into some success. I have worked with great people in the industry, and I have gotten airplay on college radio in the USA, Japan Commercial Radio, Australia. It is too easy to grow tired of the uphill grind!
