Did you ever think that maybe it offends white people just as much??

It's also a word that we want erased from our language because it's not exactly a word we're proud of either.

I agree Agent Smith.
Yes, some black people look at the word as a term of endearment, and they use an "a" at the end instead of "er" but the word still is negative to many people.
why would anyone want to keep using a word that brings back memories of the pain & suffering that their ancestors went through.

Why would you want to take a word like n**ga and try to turn it into something
beautiful? Would you take a word like pedophile and try to turn it into
something beautiful? NO! And the reason you would not is because you understand the meaning of such a dreadful word.

When it comes to the n-word people for the most part are virtually ignorant of
its history. And it is out of ignorance that someone would want to take a word
as evil, heinous and diabolical as the word n**ga and want to use it affectionately and endearingly.

Oprah hates the n word so much, and those other women probably do too and don't want anyone calling them that; as a term of "endearment" or not.

Monique is a good person at heart, but, she is very confused and in denial about so many things in her life,(her weight being normal and healthy, her movies being funny, etc).
If another celebrity were to come up to her and call her a racial slur, she would first curse them out, then second, go to the media crying about how she felt humiliated.

Monique is ignorant. There is no way that Oprah or Condi would say "Thank you. You're my n***a too." Right is right and wrong is wrong. It's not appropriate to use such a derogatory word to show endearment. Why don't we just start calling everyone a m*thaf***a, too?

I love Monique and it really saddens me to see a person with so much respect kneel down to an ugly word. I understand the point she makes...I just don't agree. There's NO WAY that word could be beautiful.

I have been on message boards constantly, but never seen comments that has such meaningful fluidness like the comments stated today. Thanks fellow posters, all of yall comments said more than I could ever think have written, from the blacks n whites.I live in the south, I am a southern bell, raised with an open mind. But I do not allow my inner circle of friends privately call me the n or use it like it's a part of our modern day vernacular. A former friend constantly greeted me by phone sayn what's up my n*&^, but I continuously educated her where the word came from, etc. She defended herself and her right to say what she wanted, but I told her, dont call me that anymore until you respect me, high school friend or not. I know better and understand the backlash taken by our fore fathers and mothers. She concurred & not to call me that when greeted but we really dont talk much anymore since 2004 beat down conversation about the N word. Oh, well, maybe she and Monque can talk now, ignorance embrassing ignorance. I will say I've lost a little respect for my gal Monque.
