Johnny Depp's 'Sweeney Todd' Role Upsets Girlfriend

Johnny Depp is terrifying his long-term partner Vanessa Paradis by going to extreme lengths to get into his new role as Demon Barber Sweeney Todd. Depp starts rehearsals for the film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's musical in London next month, but he's preparing for the part already by slitting imaginary throats to the soundtrack of Dies Irae (Day Of Wrath) - the 13th century Latin Hymn traditionally used in the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass.

I don't know why Johnny's girlfriend is so upset, because in my opeion it is just a movie and it is not real, so please see it in this way; in fact this is just what Johnny likes to do is act.

Johnny Depp is simply rehearsing, practicing to become Sweeney Todd in the movie. He needs perfect timing with the song, and yes he needs to feel at one with the blades. I don't believe for a minute she is really upset, she's probably teasing, or wanting to get him some good publicity. An actor rehearses by themselves as well as with the rest of the cast to get it right. That's what acting is. Silly concerns. I have been in the stage production and it is intense, and wonderful in a gruesome way. The music is astounding. I hope he can sing and do the music justice.

Johnny Depp has always been an amazing acter and their is a reason for this, if this is what he has to do to prepare for this role, which i personally think he was made for, then more power to him!

I can understand why she could have concerns...but Johnny Depp seems to know when to come out of his role in each movie...As long as he can handle the person he becomes why on screen..and leave that character at the studio..I think it will be ok...Don't worry Venessa...we on the outside are looking at him..and he is doing great...I think I heard him say he does not watch himself on screen..I find that amazing as he would really like what he see's..He might be his biggest fan..asides from me! lol..xx Phoenix
