Heard Chris Fischer on the Bob and Brian show (radio) The Hog 102.9 this morning talking about the Great White Expedition.I was amazed at how exciting the whole thing sounds. I am happy to hear that Paul was there and let's hope we see some footage of Paul (you sizzzzzzzzzzzle) Walker.

I think it's lame that this project chose to hire a poseur to stand by as these guys hook and haul a protected species of shark, within a wildlife reserve; this despite the fact that 'genuine naturalists' are already in the process of attaching archival satellite transmitters (without harming the sharks) but are not allowed to be on TV for political reasons. I think it's crooked and duplicative and PHONEY! and all at the expense of the wildlife and against the better judgments of the actual researchers who have been doing the work for these past 16 years. Why hook and line endangered species in order to attach transmitters when the actual local researchers have already demonstrated that the sharks can be photo ID'd and transmittered without hooking them, it may look like 'FUN' and the poseurs will wink at the camera but this is canned for TV (commercials) garbage, loaded with misinformation and fluff-- WHAT IDIOCY!

I have to agree with the following comments; this is a step backwards, and sideways. Throat hooking a protected species within a National Marine Sanctuary...
I have spent the last 13 years participating in researching great white sharks at Ano Nuevo Island as a member of the Pelagic Shark Research Foundation. Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine such a heinous idea ("Great White Ways," Oct.28). To put these animals at risk intentionally is reckless and smacks of showmanship. That National Geographic would sign on, well, I guess fishing shows are all the rage these days. This is indicative of the flawed judgment of sanctuary administrators. Sad and without dignity. Our sharks deserve better.

This joker wants to swim with sharks,
I say we cheer him on!
For once he meets a grisly end,
One less meathead'll be gone!
