Just saw "Paranormal Activity," and fell asleep. Borrring!
I agree with everything you said about "Trick r Treat." It is a very scary and smart horror film. But it's photography and the primarily children's cast reminds me of "Goonies meets Halloween." It is very much like "Pulp Fiction" in it's timeframe shifting and for that alone it's a film to be recommended.
The 1950's Hammer remake of "The Mummy," featured Christopher Lee as Kharis, basically recycling the 1940's films with the Banning clan here represented by Peter Cushing. They did improve on Kharis by making him much quicker with some thought behind his deeds and excellent make-up. The ending is right out of, The Mummy's Ghost (1944). Happy Halloween.
