First of all, there are many different kinds of rape, so the catch phrase "rape is rape" is not accurate. ALL rapes are violations and should be punished. However, I'm sure that everyone would agree that a 19 year old boy with a 15 year old girl who "rapes" her is not the same as a violent sexual assault with a weapon. Second, I neither support nor condone Polanski, my problem is with the time frame. The US has had many opportunities over the last 30 years to apprehend Mr. Polanski, he hasn't stayed exclusively in Paris the entire time. Why now? My biggest concern is how much this enitre process will cost the taxpayers to ensure sentencing of one case, one very OLD case and how many very recent, violent and non-violent cases could be prosecuted with those same monies. It is almost as if we are cutting off our noses to spite our faces. He is not innocent, I do not condone his actions, but I'd prefer to put away the hard core current rapists than go after one man who has one crime in his past.

It may have taken years to achieve but if he is not punished, he may just have committed the perfect crime.... I worry for society as a whole when we can actually look at a case like this, where a child is abused by an adult and we actually utter the words......"but it happened so long ago and just look at how much money this entire process could cost."

That's nice. I'm glad to hear that Kirstie found the time to stop eating and say something meaningful.

Being defended by Woody Allen is a bit of a dubious distinction.

Kristie,
Thank you so much for having the guts to stand up to this madness.
It doesn't matter who did this or how long ago it was. Rape is a horrific crime that stays with the victim for life.
I was raped as a child more than 30 years ago. I am still dealing with it. Thanks for standing up for us.
We love you!
