It is very sad to me too. I hope Mackenzie can stop referring to it as consensual and start referring to it as "sexual abuse," as she was a minor when it began--and I realize our dependencies on a parent are necessary and her feelings have become conviluted as a result of this. But it does not change the fact that it is sick and wrong and I blame HIM.

A public airing is exactly what needed to be done with this family secret. I wouldn't be at all surprised that Ms. Phillips protected her fathers rep by stating this happened after she'd reached her majority and she consented, while it had really happened much earlier. Even at age 18, a father is a power figure in a young womans world and this man abused his power by molesting his daughter. I do agree he was a very sick man, maybe not even aware of his actions, but responsible for them still. It's secrets like this that make for a chronic relapsing addict, hopefully by shedding light on it, Ms. Phillips can finally have some peace. Her statement that she couldn't be the only one in the world living through this proves how the incest isolated her from the world. Get better, McKenzie, you don't have to live the nightmare anymore.

I like what some of you said here, about how that father had power, purely by Ms. Phillips birthright but it is HIS SHAME. GIVE it BACK to HIM and stop feeling/saying you consented, Ms. Phillips. How good was your judgment as a juvenile? How can you be held responsible? Of COURSE, this hidden and sequestered can make a chronic addict...He was responsible for teaching and guiding and HE FAILED to lead the RIGHT EXAMPLE.
