what r u talking about. it was a very satisfying episode! Couldn't ask for a better premier. And we have to have him back at the princeton-Plainsboro as soon as possible! We can't...no no the world can't... afford him locked in an asylum!

So that's one vote for going back to the way things were!
Do you think he should keep any of the changes, Anonymous, or do you want him to go back to the old House?

I agree with the writer of this story. The episode seemed rushed - too much happened in the 2 hour premiere for House fans to actually believe it. I feel like the writers tried to cram all their good ideas into 2 hours, when really everything that happened could have easily been dragged out over 3 maybe even 4 episodes...too much change all at once for House..it seemed like an entirely different show, like a spinoff of House maybe. I was left feeling very confused: i did not hate the episode, but i certainly didn't love it. It was slightly disapointing but the preview for next week looks better, with cuddy and wilson back :)
we shall see...

Wow, excellent article. House is still going to be great this season, though. They did what they needed to do.

@Anonymous #2 - Yeah, I agree, the rushed was the problem. I think if the writers just trusted us to love the show despite not being 'normal,' they'd be able to try all sorts of new things. Then again we should be happy they're trying to alter House at all, even if its an unpopular idea. We'll have to see.
@Anonymous #3 - Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. I agree I think this season will be a renewal of the series, honestly. Despite all my criticism.

Hugh Laurie was absolute amazing. He gave a mind-blowing performance that has to be remembered for years. He could have won an Academy Award for that.
For a single episode, it was good, but the pacing was slow and the whole mental facility setting felt a little disingenuous. Full review of the episode on my blog.

I might go back to read your entire review, but your first two sentences revealed to me that you are just another cut/paste pompous reviewer eager to criticize and attempt to sound intelligent in order to make up for the pain you felt when your mommy spanked you and/or forgot to feed you.

Opinions are like an anus...we all have one and they are often full of....
Here is my opinion...instead of taking time to tear apart another team of artists' efforts to entertain us all, how bout trying to find what is good about the show and then add your thoughts on how you would change it?

I concur with the writer. I was very excited over the idea that "parts" of House would evolve and change. I wanted to see him in a different arena, but have the other characters remain involved, as the writer indicated, they could come for advice, or heaven forbid, flash to the hospital and have "memories" of House. Don't the writers watch soap operas?? I've been alive as long as General Hospital has been on the air, I watched Luke and Laura for YEARS! Just waiting for their reunion, I'd do the same for House..wait for his return to the hospital. They could do better, they have the talent.

Sometimes criticizing is an expression of love. I love House, I've seen every episode of the show since the pilot. I have nothing but respect for the writers and actors, which is why I won't take crap just because it's them. I expect more of House, and I have no problem saying so.
That being said, I'm glad for the dialogue Anonymous users! Keep it coming, negative or positive. That's the best part about television shows, there's always something to talk about afterward!

@shirljan - Oh you should watch it. Hugh Laurie is certainly one of the best actors on television right now. It's a crime the man hasn't won an Emmy.
@judgeGizmo - They could do better, but it's fine, hopefully they'll try to keep it going in a different way. Cross your fingers with me, okay?

Luved the season opener of House. It touched every emotion. We got to witness a different side of House. The music was also terrific. If anyone was disappointed, you need to watch it again.

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed the fast pace and thickness of the script. To get to see House as a "person" was refreshing but it would not be House if this is going to be a new twist to his personality future. Liked it and now hopefully we will continue to see the biteful, bitter, self hating, arrogant (well you get my drift)"House" we have grown to love and hate. Either or, I will continue to b a loyal viewer!

I would have liked to have House
stay longer at the Institution.
The episode with Lydia kissing
him and leading to ? wasn't worth
the time given to it. Other than that the show was really worth
watching. I suppose that is
because I consider House one of
the best dramas on TV and hope
it continues to be. The patients were believable and I
felt a loss, too, when he left them
behind. Great writing for every
part of the two hours.

HI!Icompletly gree with you. I think Dr house guionists waste a lot of wrods on unmaginative ; obvious stories.they deformed both series and Character style nd waste a lot of oportunities for a god story.Laurieperformance is the only thing keep this show on and saves it_FROM decay_

@jmacfarlane - Well I'm really glad it felt so right to you. I wish I could say the same, and maybe you're right it's worth another watch!
@anonymous - I'm hoping they can find a middle ground to have House be a person AND be the curmudgeon we all know and love. Do you think they can pull it off?
@ipsofacto - I agree, those parts were the only real problems. How about the actor who played Alvie? Was he amazing or what?!
@Athenea - I sadly agree, I think they rely a little too much on Laurie's excellence for the occasional lazy script. If you had him on your show, though, wouldn't you do the same thing? Laurie's just that good!

It was a self contained episode, rarely seen on the small screen. And so I tip my hat. I think if they stayed too long at the asylum they would be stepping on the toes of "One Flew Over the Cookos Nest". Bravo!

I really liked the premiere, but thought it was too short. Out of 2 hours I think it was only 90 mins at most--too many commercials. Wish they had limited commercials like "Fringe" has.
I hope the writers stick to their creative ideas and not get swayed by public opinion! From what I've read, the creators of the show have said that House will be struggling to become better in dealing with other people but might not be successful; they are not going back to the status quo. But the show will go back to its procedural, which has been very successful to date.
I'm looking forward to House's development over a long period of time, and to see how his colleagues deal with him and their own issues---I'm also looking forward to more interesting medical mysteries!

the premiere made me missed house that i used to know. but it's also good to see the other side of him.
my thought is: i'd love to see house that i used to know in the next episodes, but if he changed, i wouldnt hate him.
one thing makes house a different tv show to me is that the writers and other people who work behind the show can always surprise me with their new plots. thats why i'll never stop watching it.

i loved it! i am a huge fan of house and this espisode in particular. i'm a psychopharmology and clinical psychology doctoral student who works in an inpaitent hospital. the episode hit all the major issues and did it well, while still keeping the house flaire. i can't wait to see how house interacts with others once he returns to the hospital. i do hope that he still has that biting sense of humor.

I thought the premiere was horrible and implausible. I am sick of Dr. House. He is not a likeable character anymore. I think he and the series have hit bottom and hope it ends at the end of the season. Time to move on. Good review!
