Nice interview. Gives an insight into Pete's character. I loved the part about the fact that he's made to hate but one can't quite hate him. He is definetly a very conflicted person with the notion that the world is out to screw him. But his selfishness and inconsiderate behaviour to me seems very like that of a petulant child who can't have his way and throws a tantrum because it'll make everyone else miserable too. You feel sorry for him at times.

I look forward to this season. I only started watching earlier this year and it had me quite intrigued. What i love about this show is the way every character is so disinvested in himself or herself. It's like watching them watch their lives like an outsider which is an interesting experience. Also, the show is brilliant at recreating the early 60s which is reason enough. It's a very detailed and finnesed portrayal of the era and it's society.

@Deepti-B: What a great comment. Yeah, and at the same time he's probably the most honest guy on the show. He doesn't hide his emotions. When he's happy, he's not a bad guy. If he's upset, well, he doesn't always react the way we want him to. Like Vincent said to your question, he *really* wants Don's approval.

Great interview!
I love it that the discussion centered around the character and his motivations. One of my favorite aspects of the show is the intricate characters. It makes them more human that none of them are exactly what they appear to be on the surface. I think the fact that someone who should be so easy to dislike is at times rather sympathetic speaks volumes for the phenomenal writing and portrayal.
Can’t wait for season 3 to start!

@LizSchulte: I agree 100%. This is just a gem of a television show and everyone should be watching. Pete's fascinating because he was set up to be the bad guy, the jerk, but things have changed.

I am one of your friends that has not yet watched Mad Men. Even though it is a show I haven't watched, I have nothing against it and strangely consider it a show i enjoy (again, even though I haven't seen it). I did watch 20 minutes of an episode once and I liked it. Now I have season 1 on DVD, thanks to Amazon's gold box. Will catch up soon.
Also, it would help if AMC was in HD on Dish Network as I am an HD snob.

The names should be switched. Vincent Kartheiser seems like the type of name you'd hear in Mad Men. And Pete Campbell sounds like the type of name you'd hear belong to some 20/30-something actor these days.

You stayed away from sports, but you couldn't help but mention 'Empire', huh?

@Bruce Bernstein: It was an appropriate comparison.

I enjoyed the interview. I don't feel guilty about liking the Pete Campbell character, I am a major Vincent Kartheiser fan. I recognized his handsome face in EW, and was immediately interested in his new show "Mad Men". Now I'm hooked on the show and I can't wait untill the writers do me a solid and fix Pete and Peggy's romantic relationship. While vincent's "Mad Men's"character developes, I hope for the marriage of Pete and Peggy. Two misunderstood characters uniting. Them agaisnt the world. Both so brillant and passionate. Such chemisty. {At least one more fling needs to occur}. I so want to see them Together raising their baby... Married.
