I think these are all really, really bad ideas. I am especially not fond of your idea of seeding the contestants and the judges having more input on who stays. No, no, and no. NO!
Also, your list of Idols who have succeeded is awfully misleading. For one, you include Kris Allen among the winners to say that "only 2 out of 8" have been huge successes, but, he hasn't even had time to record his album yet. How is he supposed to go platinum and win multiple awards? It's also unfair to include David Cook here b/c his album has not been out long enough for such things. And you conveniently leave out the non-winners who have had major success--Chris Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson.

Grim: That would be a dream come true, but as I said, FOX needs its money.

Rose: Fair point about Kris Allen, but if I remember correctly, most of the hype surrounding his win wasn't about his singing, it was about how he wasn't the gay guy. That doesn't give me much hope for his future. As far as David Cook goes, one album is enough of a body of work to begin judging him. I've heard the album - its alright. American Idol? I think not.
I chose to focus only the winners of the competition because I didn't want to end up writing a novel. There was nothing convenient about excluding people like Daughtry and Hudson. Their inclusion would have strengthened my point. Though I don't believe they are true "idols" for other reasons, lets say I concede the point and agree with you. That means I get to talk about all the contestants who made it on the show without becoming American Idols. That means the show's success rate isn't 2/8, its more like 4/however many people have been on the show.
