I think it's nothing more than Kathy Griffin still trying way to hard to be funny.
"Hmmm, I'm Kathy Griffin, what can I do that's totally ironic (in my own mind) and outrageous that I think will make people laugh (but they really won't)? I got it! Bring a kid that NO KID attending or watching these awards will know who he is! I'm so famous because I do stuff like this!"
Seriously though, she needs to get hit by a bus.
