Bella is an old soul. She's very bright. She is also extrememly accident prone. She would have been crushed by the truck if Edward hadn't been therer. When she becomes a vampire she realizes her full potential. I don't have a problem with the character.

I like the Sookie character in True Blood....she is sensitive and naive but still has a powerful inner strength.

i like twilight and harry potter but these are just books then films people read to much into things.its just a bit of fun a good book to read and a good film to watch.but i do think true blood sucks !

I disagree with your assessment that Buffy being "chosen" makes her less of a strong figure - it has been repeatedly emphasized in the series that one's "calling" is not never necessarily set it stone; an example would be Faith in season 3, where she chose to go rogue - this contrast really demonstrates the roads Buffy could have, but never took due to her willingness to continue fighting the good fight. Its also not just the superpowers she is bestowed with that makes Buffy strong - she also demonstrates amazing compassion and empathy, as well as the ability to willing sacrifice herself for the ones she loves, and ultimately, the world.
