Thank God - someone who has actually spoke common sense! I applaud you on a very well written piece - Chris Brown should be in jail. He has shown no remorse for his actions whatsoever only pleading guilty because he had no other choice. He's a spineless coward and the justice system condoned his behaviour with the sentence he got. I agree he won't stick to it and god forbid some other woman makes the kind of mistake Rhianna did, they may end up a lot worse way than she did - dead! Rhianna could have been such a voice for domestic violence, but for whatever reason she chose not to speak out for
many reasons - maybe because she was still in love with this moron-poor girl, and was probably embarrased as well. she'll wake up one day and finally realise that he aint worth X@@##! I hope his career never recovers.

Please Erica get a clue, do you think for one minute that Rihanna was totally blameless in this whole mess...no and she knows it too which is why she wants to remain friends with her so called abuser. It’s obvious that they had a volatile relationship with violence from both sides and yes it went to far this time, but to claim that this young man has received a slap on the wrist is ludicrous. It would be an accurate statement if he were white, but since he’s not you best believe he will be paying for this mistake for the rest of his life.
And for all of you angelic figures who've never made a mistake or lost control for a second I guess you all have the right to judge, but for those of us that live in the real world and understand that situations do get out of hand and things happen that you regret...in the end nothing you can do about them but learn from them and move on...pure and simple.

sorry chitchat09 would you be saying this if he had done this to you? I have a daughter and trust me if a man did this to my child I certainly wouldn't be saying he made a mistake - get real he did beat the crap out of her for whatever reason and that is so,so wrong on every level, I repeat, he's a coward. He has never voluntarily stepped up to the plate and admitted that what he did was wrong, he made a huge mistake and was genuinely sorry, he was forced to so no regret on his part! It' s not a case of race either, he did get off lightly because of who he is and an ordinary person would have gone to jail. I also work with the victims of domestic violence and trust me I see this and a lot worse every day. The abuser can be the most charming person ever and if you're in love you believe everything they say and you do everything to keep the peace even trying to remain friends. I see the bruises, broken bones and the catostrophic emotional abuse these people inflict - it's heartbreaking. It doesn't matter what they argued about he should have never laid a hand on her. He had a choice - stop the car and let her out or beat the X@@##! out of her, he chose the latter - bad move now he has to pay the price.

Bigurl1 I have personal experience so yes I can say without a doubt this was a mistake on both ends. They are both very young and I think that played a big part in this mess and the reason it escalated the way it did. I do agree and empathize with victims of DM but I don’t believe that is the case with these two. The fact that Rihanna admitted starting the fight by reading messages on his phone then reacting says this was nothing more than a lover’s quarrel that got way out of hand.
There are two sides to every story and responsibility to be accepted on both ends. Hopefully they both learn from this unfortunate situation and grow to be better individuals...which I’m sure they will as they mature.

It may have been a lover's quarrel that got out of hand, age doesn't really make that much difference on how a person reacts, it doesn't justify it either. I hope you are right, he accepts responsibility, learns a valuable lesson from this sorry episode of immaturity, puts it behind him and becomes a better person; Rhianna to try and never put herself in this kind of situation again but there's always a risk. Maybe as part of his rehabilitation he should visit a DV surviviors support group, talk with some of the survivors of DV; I think this would certainly open his eyes.

Great story, Eric. When you break it down like that, I really see the abuse from a differnt angle.

I am not going to throw blame at Chris, but one thing i will say is this two people involved into a relationship should respect each other, does not matter who you are.Rhianna and Chris both played a part in that incident, things got out of hand and they are the only two people that were present and know what had taken place. There are guys that said they would not hit a woman but that`s only a in the moment talked, because when anger took over nothing else matter, both men and women totally lost respect for each other,so never say never!.

Was there injustice for the fact that Amy Winehouse, convicted felon and crack-heroine addict, was rewarded with 5 GRAMMYS for her self abuse and refusal to go to rehab? Was there injustice in the fact that Jay Z, KNOWN FELON AND REFORMED DRUG DEALER, was also up on FELONY ASSAULT CHARGES, is seen on YouTube mushing and punching a female in the face, and has a rap sheet longer than Chris's? Was there injustice in the fact that Lil Wayne, CONVICTED FELON AND DRUG DEALER, was rewarded with 6 Grammys for his Carter album last year? And where was the media speaking out against THEIR idiosyncrasies???! Not to mention the THOUSANDS OF FELONS who grace the RED carpet and movie screens all over this country who have committed senseless acts. Where's the media speaking out about that??? There are thousands of injustices that happen in this country every day and I don't see ANYONE INCLUDING THE MEDIA ranting and railing in the streets like the Iranians. I do NOT condone violence against ANY human and I will be the first to admit that Chris was wrong for what he did, but if he's going to be nailed to the cross and strung up by his arms and legs, then so should every gun-toting, chain-smoking, drug-alcohol addicted, gang-banging, dope-pushing criminal minded, wife-husband/girfriend-boyfrie nd beating ACTOR, ACTRESS, MUSICIAN AND ENTERTAINER in America. Then there would be absolutely NOONE left to make movies or music! But they all get a pass. I guess Chris is THE EXCEPTION!

but the thing is we are not talking about them are we? I wasn't aware of Jay Z's, Lil Wayne's past,as I have no interest as I don't follow their music, Amy Winehouse, she wrote that album long before she became addicted to drugs so get your facts right on that one dear. You are missing the point completely, there have been and continued to be many people in music, film, sport, public life who have got into trouble, punished, and have been reported in the press a lot worse than he has, so Chris Brown is certainly not the exception at all. You appear to be a loyal and devoted fan of his and will defend him to the end; fair play to you but he made his mistake very publicly and the reason he has been criticized is because until he was forced to, he refused to accept responsibility and admit he was wrong and show that was genuinely sorry and a lot of people lost respect for him as a result. So let's agree to disagree on this one.

"Amy Winehouse, she wrote that album long before she became addicted to drugs"
So she wrote about not going to rehab BEFORE her drug addiction?

I think eshenua's point was that why are we holding Chris Brown as the poster boy for domestic violence when so many other stars have done this and sometimes a lot worse. I don't see articles about Christian Bale (BATMAN) and how he beat the crap out of his own mother AND sister. But we want to make an example out of this young man, pull his music, and basicially send him to hell right now. I know he should be held responsible for his actions, but come on now, should the kid's life be over? I GARUANTEE you that if the woman he hit was unknown, nobody would care. Please try and tell me I'm wrong. You guys know I'm telling the truth whether you admit it or not.

STOP TRYING TO BE SELF RIGHTEOUS AND GOD HERE PEOPLE!Chris Brown doesn't own us nothing people. Chris made his peace with Rihanna and Rihanna made her peace with him. That is the end of the story. He doesn't own none of us an apology because he didn't do a Dam thing to you or your daugther and etc. Some of you never even listen to his music or Rihannas music but got your two cents in it.It doesn't matter if you knew about Amy Winehouse, or JayZ the fact is most of us never heard of Chris Brown or Rihanna until this news got all over the place. Most of us are not doing a Dam thing about helping our community or volunteering our time. Justice was serve because a felony charge is on his record. The rest of them dont have a felony charge on their records and they did worst.Chris Brown doesn't have to admitt nothing to us period. We do not have our facts right about the whole affidavit either because that wouldn't have been thrown out by the judge unless somethings on it was not the truth. Rihannas face wouldn't even looked that good if he had did everything in that affidavit. This young mans life and career is not over by a long shot so get over it and move on people. Ranting and Ranting about it is not going to change the outcome.

Thanks for co-signing sck79; at least you're mentally acute enough to understand the context of my synopsis. And DID I NOT SAY THAT CHRIS WAS WRONG FOR WHAT HE DID! HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN, CAST THE FIRST STONE. CHECK YOUR BIBLICAL HISTORY--NOT EVEN JESUS THREW ONE!
