Year OneI've heard this theory in the past that once a person reaches a certain age they lose their sense FOR humor. Before today I refused to believe that.

thanks for saying what you did about cera. in the commercials i've seen for this it looks like cera is playing cera.
i gotta say, i'm getting pretty tired of the apatow crowd.

Dude, do I detect a negative tone concerning 'The Money Pit'? I love that movie!

Maybe this is an indication that we don't want 'Ghostbusters 3'.

@rob: I still like Cera, a lot. Honestly, he has the first line of the film and I was thinking, "Hey, that was funny. This may be pretty good."

@Scraps: There's a special place in my heart for "The Money Pit," but, come on, it's not a great film.

@Bruce Bernstein: I was worried about GB3 the second I heard them say they were going to "pass it off" to younger Ghostbusters. Ugh. Come on: we already have one Mutt Williams!

@Tom Sizemore: I love "The Money Pit"! It's just not a great movie. But, if my opinions are not to be trusted, may I interest you in a little film called "Year One" this weekend?

I think folks who venture to this movie needs to bring some Fabreeze or a match. Thanks for the warning! :)

@BlackTsChica: Fabreezr, yes. A match could present a fire hazard.

It's getting terrible reviews on Rotten Tomatoes too, but the truth of the matter is that I still have to see it just because I know I'll regret not having something to cry about in the next few weeks =P I have the trailer up at www.yovia.com/blogs/timlara it looks pretty funny, at least from this

It's interesting that you compared "Year One" to "Hudson Hawk". I recently watched most of "Hudson Hawk" (I think it's "Bruce Willis Month" on Encore). I guess I had hoped that, much like Bruce Willis' subsequent movie "The Fifth Element", it was one of those films that seemed awful at first, but was more enjoyable the fifth or sixth time around.
My thoughts? I'll plagiarize a quote from Peter Travers of Rolling Stone who said, "A movie this unspeakably awful can make an audience a little crazy. You want to throw things, yell at the actors, beg them to stop." Sounds like a very good comparison to "Year One".

@rpa1973: I didn't even mention Oliver Platt, an actor I usually LOVE. Yes, I was BEGGING him to just, please, stop.

you had me at 'jack black' for a reason not to see this film. i, too, love ramis, and have to wonder if this went the way of 'wicker man' and other films, when the studio and/or producer (as in nic cage in the aforementioned film) take control. i want to believe that is the problem, and not ramis.
why does jack black keep making films?
more importantly, why do people keep paying to see them?

First off, awesome review! I'm glad to see my hunch regarding this gem was proven right. However, I do have a question for you. Regarding the classicness of The Money Pit, which I concur was not award winning, how do you feel about Joe Vs The Volcano?

@MinnerDinner: Joe Vs. The Volcano is not as bad as people remember. I do feel it drags at times, though.
