George Clooney to play Rooster Cogburn. I have to say you're nuts for even suggesting it. George Clooney isn't old enough and he's way too "pretty". Tommy Lee Jones would be my choice.

Tommy Lee Jones won't work because he's done the hard necked western role already. It has to be somebody you wouldn't expect. They have to be able to divert the audience's attention from comparing them to John Wayne. The only way to do that is to reinvent the role, I think.

being a big Wayne fan...saw the original...cant believe I'm saynig that....TRUE GRIT...no less that seven times on its first release...and that in a town were it only ran for seven days on its first release...I have seen it more that twenty times since and know almost every line...'Fill your hands you ..sonofabitch....'..or ...'She reminds me of ME...'...or...'I'M going to kill you in one minute or see you hang in FORTH GRANT at Judge Parkers convience...Great stuff...also read the book...and have seen most of the Cohen Bros ..films too...even Intolerable Crulty...which was'nt too bad..but FARGO...is far and away the best thing they have done...and George Clooney would be perfect as Rooster..Wayne was perfectly cast..and Robert Duval..and Kim Darby...but poor old Glen Cambell..he said he made wayne look so good he got the Oscar..but it has its flaws..the shootout at the end could do with updating...and the shootout at the dugout ..while good could be improved...while the killings in the acual dugout are disturbing enough....but its the sprectre of Wayne that is going to be the hardest act to follow..one thing I wiil say the opening in Fargo is brilliant with the car racing along in the snow,,True Grit could do with a big opening like that...think...CAHILL U.S. Marshell....just the opening mind you as the film is a little cheesy...to say the least...Would like to be an extra on it though...when does it start filming and where..tonyl.
