We'll never know for sure. I think the hour or so before she went to the hospital really sealed her fate.

Yes, She definitely should have sought medical attention as soon as it happened, even if she felt fine, hitting your head, no matter the circumstances is no matter to put off.... often symptoms don't exhibit until much later after an injury. What I don't understand is, if she was just learning to ski, even if she was on the 'beginner' hill, why she wouldn't have a helmet on. It's like someone driving a bicycle for the first time, they my think that they are just going to bike around the corner and then come back, but anything can happen. So sad that this story didn't have a happy ending!

Most importantly was the "NO Helmet"
Second was to put it off mildly
Third was to late..the damage was done...Dam shame..
Please don't blame this on Canada and our medical system...She refused assistance that would have saved her life..and why in God's name did they move her to NY...Bigger mistake...God Bless her soul

Don't think it is anything to assign blame too, to Canada or their medical system. Most likely she was moved to NY just to bring her home to die, if their was any hope I doubt they would have put her on a plane to begin with and the hospital she went too was not known for head trama's. My thoughts go out to her family, but it sounds like she had a full life and leaves behind many fond memeories to those who loved her.

Dwelling on this tragic incident
will not help anyone, least of all Natasha Richardson's family.
They should have insisted she have medical help whether she
wanted it or not. That is the
way incidents like this should
be handled by those in charge
of Ski Resorts or anywhere else
that accidents occur.

The only thing that is not clear to us (professional neurosurgeons) is the reason for her consent when it is a case of trauma and it needs immediate medical attention. Why was she flown all the way to NY for a neurosurgical intervention. How is the patient to be blamed? It is evident that the attending medical staff weren't convincing enough to rush her to the nearest head trauma center! Its a shame and disgrace to the so called high standards of medical care in the West.
