Overrated & Underrated Oscar Winners For Best Picture

Saying a Best Picture winner is overrated is quite simple. If you think a movie is terrible and it won Best Picture ipso facto it is overrated. But what about an underrated Best Picture winner?

This was a very interesting article. I agree that Ben-Hur and Gladiator are over-rated. I loved Crash, though. It totally moved me and was so unusual. The Apartment and Shakespeare in Love deserved to win. My vote for the all-time most over-rated Oscar Best Picture winner: Out of Africa, which is not on this list. Awful, awful . . .

i like crash but ill give you that its overrated. the other four are classics. and shakespeare in love SUCKS. saving private ryan should have won hands down

I agree with Marcus that Saving Private Ryan was fabulous, deeply-moving and historically accurate. It is so hard to compare a comedy with a drama/action flick. Both deserved honors. Perhaps Oscar should have two categories . . . Flash-back to 1935: It Happened One Night was a screwball comedy that won Oscars in all the top five categories, beating out more serious contenders such as Cleopatra and House of Rothschild.

My under - rated Best Picture Oscar winner is the 1946 film "The Best Years of Our Lives." I don't have an over - rated Best Picture Oscar winner.

Crash deserved to win. It was a masterful ensemble work. Two of my all time favorites are The Departed and Forrest Gump.

I watched Crash with my adult son. At the end he said "eh" and I said "that was really good!" So I guess it is pretty subjective. I dislike epics and so would be inclined to agree the Ben-Hur and Gladiator are overrated.
