Nicole Sullivan(TJAGS weekly column) It was 9:30 PM, on a Thursday night, and I was in the middle of dinner and (more than a few) drinks at a local establishment. My phone starts vibrating in my left pocket,

Great interview. Nicole is awesome. Way funnier than Fey, Silverman, etc.

@Tom Sizemore: She was really great to talk to. Just as funny and nice as you would imagine.

I would have tried to get her to do some "Literally..." sketch from MadTV with me.

good stuff mike. shes very funny, and king of queens is very under-rated. although mad tv sucks

@Marcus Garvey: I agree with you on your first two points, not on the third one. Thanks for the kind words!

remember on 'night court' there was that guy on the laugh track that had a tremenously hearty laugh? as a kid, i figured it was a recorded laugh track, but since i never heard that guy on any other tv show, i wondered if it really was the recorded sound from the live audience and that guy was the security guard or something, whcih was why he was there for every show.
mike, try to figure out who that guy is and get an interview with him!

@rob who had a broken foot: First of all, "Rita Rocks" is most definitely filmed in front of a studio audience, not laugh track (I was justifiably scolded for getting this wrong during the interview). Are you sure it wasn't Richard Moll who played Bull?

@rob- how about the lunch lady in the cafeteria with the hairy mole?

i thought i heard somewhere that most sitcoms shot in front of a live studio audience still utilized a canned laugh track when the show is edited for air. so they could insert big time laughs on punchlines that may have bombed in front of the audience. i think i heard about this theory on one of the seinfeld dvds or something. i could be completely wrong on this...

Glad to see someone who isn't a "big name" celebrity get interviewd; those are usually the people that actually have something interesting to say. Nicely done!

The worst part about Mad TV--the "coming up..." before the commercials. I don't want to see the joke ahead of time, that is less funny. Plus it always has the loudest laughs in those clips. I'm supposed to think "That looks hilarious, I can't wait to laugh in 2-3 minutes!"
Good interview Mike.

This was an awesome interview, Mike. I knew very little about her and now I feel like I have a much better idea of her and the show.

aww, Nicole seems so awesome. She totally deserves to be more famous than she is.
But I have to disagree with her. Some day, though maybe not in our lifetimes, Northwestern will win a bowl game!

I absolutely love her, she is one of the best comedians out there today, male or female. I especially loved her work on SCRUBS which is hardly ever mentioned anywhere, but she had a recurring role for a season (or two) as a nuerotic needy person and she was great. Great interview!

@dishly in miami: That's my fault. I had every intention to ask about Scrubs but once we got going I, sadly, unintentionally, ommitted the question.
