I don't understand how you can use Nicholas Fehn as an example of how SNL has gone downhill after the election. First of all, the mere appearance of Nicholas Fehn illicits laughter from the audience. He is one of SNL's most popular characters, so he is not been "thrust" upon the audience. So popular, he was carried over from last season.
Secondly the character is supposed to be a blatant lampooning of the likes of Richard Lewis, who just blabber and don't get to the point, so I don't know what else you could possibly want from the character.
