"The Blair Witch Project" is the worst horror movie EVAR.
It was the only film I ever saw where the audience Booed after it was over.

"This is the type of movie that you catch on USA at 1:00 in the morning because you see Matthew McConaughey pop up on the screen and end up sticking with it until the end"
im pretty sure that has never happened. ever

maybe the exorcist was scary back in the day but when i saw it in 2005 i was completly clueless to why people love this movie so much

Squints - I know about all the subtext in "Dead", my point was that as a horror film it doesn't work. As a movie it's thematically deep but it still isn't scary, which is kind of the point of a horror movie.
Garvey - You mean you've never stopped while flipping through the channels because your car wreck curiosity caused you to think "Wow, McConaughey was in ANOTHER movie I never heard of? Gotta see how bad this one is!"

Great choices! "Frailty" is still one of my favorite horror films even though it's more supernatural than it is gory. I have to disagree that SAW is overrated, though: I thought the original introduced some new concepts to a tired genre and was sadly bastardized by the sequels. Same goes for "Feast," now that I thnk about it.

Good choices, but way off on Night of the Living Dead. Sure it isnt scary, but that doesnt make it overrated. Most horror films arent scary anyway. That film broke boundaries in its time, it had a black lead character, unseen before violence, innovative for its time makeup and an ultra bleak finale. Its got classic dialogue and direction and is in my mind a masterpiece in many ways, even if it is perhaps dated by todays standards.

For those of you who didn't understand it NOTLD was a classic and aside from "The Exorcist" it was by far the scariest movie made at the time. While Duane Jones did a great job in the leading role he also set the tome for what would happen to blacks in future movies, the black guy died first and it was like that for years! As for"The Excorcist" when it first came out even the music was scary but when Regan began to show the affects being possessed nobody can tellme that wasn't scary and i went to see it when it first came out; lots of vomiting in the theaterthat night!

The Blair Whitch Project was just another ""snowjob" as was "The Village". To go see M. Night Shyamalan's movies you have to be real high on something because his endings are "crash landing stinkers"!

Scariest movie I've ever seen wasn't even made in US but in Japan, "The Beast of The Yellow Night" and "The H-Man"! Still looking for both!

I thought Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the fact that it is based on a true story! Wow! What a shocker! Great movie...I also liked ....
House of Wax
Wrong Turn
Jeepers Creepers
The Mothman Prophecies
Halloween movies
Friday the 13th as well
a lot of good classic out there.
However, they just don't make them like that anymore...
Why?
OLD GENRE RULES AND ROCKS!
