I love Dr. Drew. I have been on both sides of the fence too and I cry as I watch this show (especially as they play the new theme song - great choice btw!) I can't say I am totally sober as I still drink but the hard hard drugs have been gone for 10 years in November. I never went to rehab, just woke up one day and made that decision to stop but watching these people fight their demons, takes me back in time and breaks my heart for all who have gone thru and are still going thru this. You are doing a great thing Dr Drew and best of luck to any and all of his patients! Hang in there it will truly be worth it!

I grew up in a drug family. I was able to leave, go to college and even find my soul mate. I am an addict and alcoholic. I haven't drank since I was 32, I am now 43. I am also afraid to leave my house; without my husband holding my hand...until one day I made a call to a local university where I enrolled and walked into a class room alone without leaving my home for five years - now I have been going to school to finish my degree and have been put on Valium to help with the painic. I am in danger of the loss of my education for I do not want to leave my house anymore, I still go to school but I know the day is coming when I will not be able to walk out that door...I feel it coming. I'm worried about the valium...I know I am addicted to it. I have tried to taper myself off but then I panic in class and end up needing to use it again. I need some advice/help/feedback... What can I do? Since I do live in a very, very small rule town there isn't anything or anyone around here to turn to.

Alcoholics tend to have trouble socializing when they aren't drinking, Even though it has been years since you have drank you can still be anti-social. I hope for your sake that you talk to your doctor and be completely honest with him/her. Tell him about all addictions and that you feel your Valiums are not helping with that particular problem, you may need something different. Make it a point to go out of your house at least once a day -if it is just to sit on your step for a few minutes. Just to build your mental strength. Rehab is generally unaffordable for most and I am not a doctor but I do know that you have to have faith in yourself to win the battle and perhaps you need some type of therapy to overcome that fear. An alcoholic and addict is always recovering, they are never cured but the fact that you are managing to stay in school, that you went to begin with shows you have some inner strength and you want to win this battle. Look at how much you have overcome already - Good luck to you I believe that you can do it!

I hope so much and Pray that Jeff Conaway never gives up Hope. He is someone I loved watching on Taxi and Greese. He makes me want to meet him and Hug him and let him know He is not alone and even though I am just a Fan. I love him and want to see him Better. I cryed all night after hearing him say he didn't want to live any more. I pray he is better and more looking up than the show has shown so far. I know he may never see this but I do wish him all the love and support I could possiably send through an email. Please be ok to all of the group. Love allways just a fan and wish I could be a friend. Felicia my friends call me Flea. Take Care You are all thought of very much.
