Katy Perry's latest single, "Roar", has drawn heavy comparison to Sara Bareilles' single "Brave", which was released back in April, but where most artists would immediately file a plagiarism lawsuit Bareilles says she has no problem with it.
Fans lashed out at Perry, accusing her of ripping off the melody of "Roar" from "Brave", but Bareilles is actually thrilled over it.
"I was stoked. I was like, 'Great,'" Bareilles tells Billboard.com. "I was like, 'You guys want to go get (mad) about something and buy my music, that's great.'"
Sara is upset that her fans got "aggressive" over the similarities, but she doesn't feel like Katy stole anything from her.
"I don't feel like anything was taken from me artistically," she said. "I wasn't the one having any problems with it.
"I've known Katy a long time. We are friends and she and I spoke about it. I look at it as two female artists who are releasing a message of empowerment."
As it turns out, the comparison has actually pushed "Brave" back into the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 31, while "Roar" sits at number two.
Bareilles even said she and Katy considered doing something together to silence the critics.
"We actually talked about it. We're like, 'Should we just work on a mash-up and let everybody know we're not mad at each other?'" the singer said.
