Troubled actor Randy Quaid and his wife EVI have been arrested and charged with burglary amid allegations they have been illegally squatting in the house they called home.
Officials at the Santa Barbara County sheriff's department in California visited the property on Saturday afternoon after receiving a complaint from the owner of the property.
But when cops turned up to investigate, they found Randy and Evi Quaid at the door - with the pair insisting they had owned the home since the 1990s.
The man who called in the police provided documentation confirming he had been the rightful owner of the property since 2007, when he acquired it from another buyer who had purchased the home from the Quaids several years earlier, reports the Associated Press.
The Quaids were arrested on charges of felony residential burglary and a misdemeanor of entering a noncommercial building without consent. Evi Quaid was also charged with resisting arrest.
Their bail has been set at $50,000 each.
The couple has been dogged by legal trouble for the past year. They were charged with defrauding an innkeeper in 2009 after failing to settle a $10,000 bill following a stay at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California.
The felony burglary charges stemming from that incident were dropped in April, but Evi Quaid was placed on probation for three years after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor count of defrauding an innkeeper.
