Puppeteer John Henson, Best Known As The Muppet Sweetums And Youngest Son Of Muppets Creator Jim Henson, Dies At 48
John Henson, the youngest son of Muppets creator Jim Henson, has died.
The puppeteer, who performed for years as the ogre Sweetums, passed away from a sudden heart attack on Friday. He was 48.
"It is with great sadness that we confirm that John Henson, son of Jim and Jane Henson and brother to Lisa, Cheryl, Brian and Heather, died at age 48 of a sudden massive heart attack on Friday, February 14, while at home with his daughter," a statement from the Jim Henson Company said.
Henson's mother Jane passed away less than a year ago, while his father died in 1990 at age 53 from abscesses in his lungs.
Henson is survived by wife Gyongyi and two daughters, Katrina (15) and Sydney (10).
The puppeteer appeared in several Muppet productions beginning with "Muppet*vision 3-D," the short film 3D attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida, in 1991. He also appeared as Sweetums in the films "Muppets From Space," The Muppets' Wizard of Oz and Muppet Treasure Island.
