Prince Philip Recovering After Surgery
British royal Prince Philip is has been upgraded to "progressing satisfactorily" after undergoing exploratory surgery on his abdomen.
Queen Elizabeth II's husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, had the surgery on Friday, a day after he was admitted to the London Clinic in preparation for the operation after falling ill last week.
A statement issued by officials at Buckingham Palace reads: "His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh has had an exploratory operation following abdominal investigations. The results will now be analyzed. At this early stage he is progressing satisfactorily. Further updates will continue to be issued when appropriate."
Prince Philip, who was hospitalized last August with a recurring bladder infection, will celebrate his 92nd birthday on Monday in hospital as he is set to remain under observation for two weeks.
