British actor Bob Hoskins passed away on Tuesday evening after suffering from pneumonia.

The star, who had stepped away from acting after announcing he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2012, was 71.

Hoskins was best known for his role as Eddie Valiant in 1989's Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and he also played Mr. Smee in Peter Pan sequel "Hook" in 1991, reprising the role for the 2011 SyFy Pan prequel "Neverland."

George Clooney has resigned from his role as a "messenger fo peace" for the United Nations.

The actor, who recently got engaged to girlfriend Amal Alamuddin, served with the UN for six years after raising awareness about the crisis in Darfur, Sudan, in 2008; and on Tuesday the UN confirmed the news.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric broke the news in a statement, saying, "After six years in this role, Mr Clooney feels it is time to retire his official role as messenger of peace.
