Julia Roberts Talks About Her Role In HBO's 'The Normal Heart'

The cast of HBO’s upcoming movie The Normal Heart met the Television Critics Association on Thursday. Based on the play by Larry Kramer, it tells the story of the beginning of the AIDS epidemic from the point of view Ned Weeks (Mark Ruffalo), a gay activist raising awareness about the then unknown disease afflicting, at that time, predominantly gay men. Roberts plays Dr. Emma Brookner, a polio survivor fighting for the medical community to study this disease.

Saving Mr. Banks tells the story of the making of Mary Poppins. Tom Hanks plays Walt Disney himself and Emma Thompson plays Poppins author P.L. Travers, who fought Disney on making the film a musical and including animation. The film portrays Travers as an abrasive British curmudgeon (Travers was Australian and moved to London), and Thompson embraced her impolite side.

There are arguably no current stars as famous as Tom Hanks. The two-time Academy Award winner has starred in films that are part of everyone’s collection for decades. Perhaps then it was appropriate that our era’s biggest star played Walt Disney, one of the century’s most famous figures. Or, maybe it made it more challenging for Hanks to disappear into the character of Walt Disney in his new movie, Saving Mr. Banks.

Star-Studded 'Saving Mr. Banks Premiere' Includes Colin Farrell, Tom Hanks, More Celebs

Several old school Hollywood stars came out to celebrate the "Saving Mr. Banks" premiere in Los Angeles on Monday.

The film centers on Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) who spends years in pursuit of the film rights to P.L. Travers' (Emma Thompson) popular novel, "Mary Poppins."

The stars of the original "Mary Poppins," Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, made appearances at the premiere, as well as Hanks, Thompson, and some younger faces, including Colin Farrell.

"Saving Mr. Banks" hits theaters on Dec. 13.
