Last week I was pretty busy watching movies. I saw Adam Shankman’s musical “Rock of Ages,” Colin Trevorrow’s dramedy “Safety Not Guaranteed,” and Ridley Scott’s sci-fi/horror flick “Prometheus.” I largely thought Tom Cruise’s robotic performance ruined “Rock of Ages,” and “Safety Not Guaranteed” was enjoyable, but only when it stuck to the time travel elements in its story. For more of my thoughts on those two films, check out my reviews.

Although I didn’t love Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus,” I didn’t exactly hate it either. The special effects are superb and there are a few truly horrifying ...

Trailer Talk: Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' Could Be This Summer's Next Big Blockbuster & More

Prometheus
Arriving in theaters this week are Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sci-fi vehicle “Prometheus,” the silly computer animated sequel “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” the coming-of-age comedy “Lola Versus,” the indie time travel comedy “Safety Not Guaranteed,” the period piece drama “Bel Ami,” the family relationship dramedy “Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding,” and Todd Solondz’s drama “Dark Horse.”

Unfortunately my pick from last week, “Snow White and the Huntsman,” was plagued by bad acting, lackluster action scenes, and farfetched concepts even for a fairy tale. Not only was it diff...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'Snow White and the Huntsman,' 'Piranha 3DD,' & 'Battlefield America'

Snow White and the Huntsman
Last week’s “Men in Black III” was fairly average. It’s nothing fantastic, but certainly more memorable than 2002’s “Men in Black II.” Following some bizarre real life shenanigans, the wacked out Rip Torn is written out of the story and thankfully the talking pug is nowhere to be found. With stupid dialogue and gimmicky 3D, the most entertaining moments come from the film’s cast. I know what you’re thinking, and no, I’m not talking about Will Smith.

Jemaine Clement is a hilarious snarling villain, Josh Brolin plays a superb young Tommy Lee Jones, and Michael Stuhlbarg charms as an extrater...

Men in Black
I didn’t end up watching “Battleship” last week, because I wasn’t in the mood to knowingly subject myself to a bad movie that night. Friends who caught it, told me that it’s as terrible as they thought it would be, giving it a D grade. Critic Matt Patches hilariously called it “as stiff and lifeless as the plastic pieces used to play (the board game).” After hearing things like that I’m glad I didn’t bother with “Battleship.”

This week includes the release of the highly anticipated blockbuster “Men in Black III,” but I’m more interested in Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” since it feature...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies
Last week’s Tim Burton/Johnny Depp collaboration “Dark Shadows” turned out to be rather disappointing. The film starts out strong, but loses steam as it progresses. It has plenty of Burton’s trademark grim style with musical accompaniment by Danny Elfman, and some decent humor. However the villain is very one-dimensional, the climax is weak, and in many ways the film feels like a watered-down version of other classic Burton works like “Beetlejuice” and “Edward Scissorhands.” My Grade: C+

At the box office this week, you’ll find the science fiction action flick “Battleship,” the ensemble pr...

To all the loyal readers, I apologize that we didn’t have a Trailer Talk column last week. I watched seven films last weekend at IFF Boston, so I was pretty busy writing reviews. If you’re interested reading more about the movies that I saw, definitely head over to my news page. On top of the film festival, I also wanted to make sure I put out a review of “The Avengers” in time for its release. Luckily the Joss Whedon’s flick lives up to the hype, and is very entertaining.

This week in theaters you’ll have the opportunity to watch the latest Johnny Depp/Tim Burton collaboration “Dark Sha...

If you missed my interview with Fran Kranz and Kristen Connolly from “The Cabin in the Woods,” definitely be sure to give it a read. They both had some amusing stories to share about their experience working with Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon on the movie. Also last week, I had the opportunity to visit Washington DC for an exciting espionage adventure in honor of the blu-ray release for “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol,” which I chronicled here.

Arriving in theaters this week are the Zac Efron romantic drama “The Lucky One,” the African American comedy “Think Life a Man,” the pri...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies
My high hopes for the fourth “American Pie” movie were dashed after I saw “American Reunion.” There was plenty of 90s nostalgia and some of the trademark humor that you love from the franchise, but on the whole the film was pretty depressing. For more of my thoughts, check out the full review.

Dropping in at the box office this week are the Joss Whedon penned horror film “The Cabin in the Woods,” the modern-day take on a classic comedy trio in “The Three Stooges,” the action packed sci-fi movie “Lockout,” the African American kidnapping thriller “Woman Thou Art Loosed: On the 7th Day,” ...

American Reunion
In addition to interviewing Fran Kranz and Kristen Connolly from “The Cabin in the Woods” last week, I also spoke with author Dana Fredsti about her new zombie book Plague Town, which comes out on Tuesday. We talked about her book, her connection to the cult classic “Army of Darkness,” and about this season of “The Walking Dead.” If you haven’t seen my interview yet, definitely check it out.

This week you’ll have the opportunity to see the “American Pie” gang back together again in “American Reunion,” the college comedy “Damsels in Distress,” the Morgan Spurlock documentary “Comic-Co...
