'The Voice' Recap: Did Song Choice Eliminate Another Artist?

May 15th, 2013 6:54am EDT
The Voice
The second week of live playoffs on The Voice was just as crazy as the one before it - but at the end, it came down to one of the most important things in the singing competition: song choice.

Monday's Top 12 performance show had more than a few eyebrow-raising moments. A heat wave knocked out the Los Angeles studio's air conditioning, forcing everyone to sweat their way through half the show until it could be repaired. At one point, host Carson Daly found out that if the temperature rose too high, the lights could go out. "That'll be fun for America," he quipped.

But perhaps the most sur...

Randy Jackson is no longer the last man standing. The musician/producer is exiting "American Idol" after serving 12 years on the judging panel.

Jackson survived far longer than the original team, which was comprised of Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul, who left  several seasons ago to pursue other interests.

'American Idol' Recap: Angie Miller's Shocking Exit + Finale Preview

May 10th, 2013 8:31am EDT
Angie Miller is eliminated on AMERICAN IDOL
Since Kelly Clarkson, it's only happened once and this season it isn't going to happen again.

'American Idol' has developed a curious pattern over the years: That of never getting its winner right. Every year a clear winner emerges early, and every year that clear winner goes home before the finale. It doesn't pay to be the best in this competition.

After years of seeing this happen, it's become clear why the best contestant never wins: It becomes boring to vote for them. They peak too soon and after months of being on top and the clear favorite, it just seems unnecessary to keep voting f...

May 9th, 2013 11:15am EDT
American Idol
Rumors are circulating that there will be a major shake up on "American Idol" next season. Are judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Randy Jackson and Keith Urban all on the chopping block?

With only three contestants left on this season's singing competition, Mariah has been taking her role very seriously. However, it's most likely that she won't be returning. Her bland judging style hasn't made a very good impression on network execs or fans.

A FOX source told E! there will definitely be no Mariah when the show returns next year. A few weeks ago it was even suggested that Jennifer Lopez was...

Among shows that beat FOX’s ‘American Idol’ in the all-important demo this week: ‘Big Bang’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ ‘Idol’ placed 9th and 10th, respectively. One interesting thing about this week’s top 10: All broadcast networks had at least one show place. For NBC it was ‘The Voice’ and A...

'American Idol' Recap: Signs Of Life From The Final Three

May 9th, 2013 8:21am EDT
Angie Miller performs on AMERICAN IDOL
It seems the theme of the past few weeks has been that of three “D’s”: Depressing, Dreary and Dull.

For weeks on end, the three remaining girls chose ballads for each performance. Dreadfully boring ballads that did little to entertain or really enhance their voices in any way. Just sad bits of beauty that are great for singers to mess around, but don’t show anything artistically about the type of singer the contestant could be or what they would record.

All the song choices serve is vanity as they’ve allowed each contestant to do as much vocal gymnastics as possible without having to worr...
